   I thought the gymnastics coverage itself was pretty good, but had two huge objections.

   1) Why, why, why does every online media outlet feel the need to trumpet the results on its front page? I knew the outcome of every event I cared about hours before I saw the events themselves. I don’t begrudge them wanting to keep people up-to-date, but would it really be that hard for them to simply have a link saying “latest results here!” so that people could choose whether to be spoiled or not?

   2) The very end of the gymnastics coverage last night was amazingly inept. The last Japanese athlete finished his high-bar routine (which was great), and it was obvious that the Japanese were going to take the gold … but couldja maybe possibly *give us the guy’s score* along the way here? They didn’t even give us the final team scores, though that I can find online easily enough.

   Sheesh.

   I think it’s quite possible that Phelps can come out of these games with 6 golds, now that all the “pressure” of the media is off of him for matching or beating Spitz. He’s an incredibly talented swimmer and should be able to enjoy himself at the world stage.

   I agree with ya on the commentators, got tired of Costas and Couric during the opening. I know that it’s hard to fill the space with relevant info, but some of the stuff is just going overboard. Seems like some of the programmers think that this should be the Olympic Athlete Spotlight, instead of the Olymic Games.

   Enough with the blabbering on my end…

   Right there with ya, Elayne. I mean, as a heterosexual male I’m presumably in the group NBC’s targeting with all the beach volleyball, but it’s just overkill beyond belief.
