Apparently there is more to the NJ governor’s resignation than blackmail. It appears there may be sexual harrassment charges pending as well was charges of sexual favoritism.

You’re right, if it’s just about him beng gay, big deal. I do consider sexual infidelity to be a big thing. It tells me a lot about a person’s character. If he cheats at poker, I’d say the same thing, but it doesn’t rise to the level of a resignable offense. On the other hand, if he’s resigning, he apparently thinks it does. If he doesn’t think he can ride out the storm, who am I to say otherwise? His choice, his decision.

As for Bonnie, you’re farther up the coast than I am. So yeah, it may not be a big deal for you. On the other hand NC just got hit by Alex. a week ago. Bonnie was weak, but she still dumped a lot of water over the state. Charley is moving out over the Atlantic again as I write this and my actually restrengthen and move up to a category four hurricane. Regardless, it’s our third named storm in two weeks.

We’re headed back to NJ in a year after a fifteen-year West Coast interlude, so this rather caught my attention.

If the stories are true about him giving his lover a job and possible extortion issues afterwards, then I think it’s a potentially resignable offense. If nothing else, I think he did exactly what people should do when faced with an extortion threat: blow the threat open himself by coming clean. I give him a lot of credit for that.

I’m hoping that this doesn’t get spun as “governor resigns because he’s gay”, because that’s not the issue and shouldn’t be. It’s not even the infidelity; it’s how the issue affected his job performance.

Best of luck to all the east-coasters with hurricane fun’n’games.

And I don’t know if Pataki is next … but boy, it’s fun to speculate. 🙂
