Flat on my back

Posted By on May 24, 2004

I was picking up Caroline out of pen when she tried to flip out of my arms. She moved quickly and I twisted my hips to keep her from falling out of my arms. I felt something twist in my back and though *ouch*. I continued to clean parts of the house and pick things up. My back started to throb and hurt. By Friday evening I knew my back was not happy with me. By Saturday morning I could hardly stand and the act of sitting was agony. So I have been in bed for the past couple of days with a few tries at sitting downstairs. It is getting better slowly. Thank goodness for Peter and Ariel. They have been taking care of Caroline while I have been working on doing things like standing without screaming.

Caroline is very confused because I can

Sorry about the back Kath. Hope you feel better soon. May I suggest that when you ARE able to pick Caroline up again you use some back support such as a weightlifting belt and lift with your legs. I’m not a parent, but I’m sure that thinking of your child as a “weight” is not what you want to do.

Ouchie Stingie. Please be careful, we don’t want to lose you to the bed!

Losing Rick Biggs is a blow that is felt by many. You, however, have one of the better stories about the man, the father. We’ll hear plenty about his professionalism, about being a go-to guy, about him being a GOOD person.

He was a good FATHER, and your story illustrated it beautifully. Thank you.

Just heard about your back, Kath (I’m a bit behind in my blog reading, sorry) – feel better soon! I highly recommend Tylenol with Codeine if your MD can prescribe that.

Well please be careful. Back problems can become a nightmare and my experience with family members leaves me with little confidence in the ability of medical science to fix them. Just remember to take it easy for at LEAST a week or two AFTER the pain is gone. That’s the time when you’re most likely to do some serious injury.

    Hope you’re better already.
