I want a new drug…..

I was watching NBC Nightly News the other day. I grew up watching NBC. I remember Brinkley and Huntley. So when I want to watch a national news, I tend to watch NBC. Then I watched Jeopardy. I was amazed at the number of commercials I saw from Drug Companies. Acid reflux? Here is a purple pill that will cure what ails you. Want that special moment to happen? Here is a pill that gives you more time to express your love than the one you have to take 30 min. before you express yourself to your significant other. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Say no more. Say no more. Then there is what I call the depressed Pacman who cheers up after you get your brain firing on all cylinders due to this magic drug with all these possible side effects. Sometimes the possible side effects list sounds worse than what you are treating. Brittle Bones? Take this but only if you can stand up right for an hour.
The Drug Companies have taken their snake oil show to the public. There was a time not so long ago that they couldn
Ugh, I hate that Pacman thing. As someone who is on Zoloft, I have started to really hate advertisments for anti-depressants. They make very little mention of how long it can take to work (I’ve been on it for something like 4 months, and I’ve just recently started seeing results), and just how bad the side effects can be (bouts of nausea/ flu symptoms once every week or so ’til you get to the full dose, other “fun” side effects include dizziness, which trust me, is about the least fun you can have).
Sorry for ranting at you there, Kath, all that to say: I completely agree with you.

Not a problem. Rant away. You are experiencing the situation that is torking me.

I wonder how much the advertising and perks to the doctors are ultimately costing us? Do they just put these costs into the development fees they are always whining costs so much, which is why we have to pay so much. I am so sick of a health care system that uses the bottom line instead of the patients well being as a basis for treatment. I even read an article a while ago about some doctors who are so fed up that they are opting out of the insurance racket. They charge per visit and the money goes to the practice instead of paying someone to do paperwork. The cost is less than what the doctor would charge for all the overhead associated with ins. companies. He gets to decide what he thinks is good for the patient without being second guessed. Insurance and drug companies have such a racket going.
I seem to have repeated myself acouple of times. That’s what I get for ranting without proofing. 🙂
I knew the world was going to end when Captain Picard was doing drug commerical-voiceovers. Although I was digging the rhyming thing until the end when I found out it was a drug commerical.
every time i see one of these ads about these wonder drugs
which always list side effects
i keep expecting to see this ad one day
“side effects include death”
“please consult your physician”
