Peter Jackson’s King Kong runs over 3 hours and I never noticed it. Mr. Jackson sure has pace down to a fine art. Good film with a solid cast and sfx. It does need to be seen on a large screen since there is a scope to this film that will not translate to a TV screen even if you have one of those plasma jobbies. Kong’s roar really needs the speaker system so you too can feel the hairs on your neck rise. I enjoyed the heck out of it. For you 1933 Kong fans out there, Mr. Jackson has given you all kinds of in jokes and nods to the original. There are some intense sequences. I think I squeezed Peter’s hand a little hard during a few of them but then I don’t like bugs.<\/p>\n
I recognized Andy Serkis before Peter did in his human role in this drama. I give Mr. Serkis many points and kudos for his work as Kong. He is an actor and a puppeteer in the truest sense of the word. I was able to talk to him about Gollum once and told him that as a puppeteer I really enjoyed his performance and his abilities of puppeteering. Mr. Serkis seemed surprised and pleased that someone else got what he had to do with Gollum to make him work as a whole character. He does the same for Kong. One of the papers yesterday said that he is a modern day Karloff but I will go one better and give him the title of our modern day Lon Chaney Sr which is, as some of you know, not a title I give lightly. I look forward to seeing him and not seeing him in other roles.<\/p>\n
The Crud has gone into my lungs and the coughing is at the point where my head hurts when I cough. I scared poor Caroline last night. I had a coughing fit so bad I started heaving. I thought I had gotten the bathroom door closed but she got in and saw me heaving into the toilet. I turned around and looked at her and she looked so upset. I held her close because she looked so concerned. She asked “Mommy OK?” I told her that I was and she snuggled with me a bit and then went on about her Caroline business.<\/p>\n
