That was a blow because I have participated in all of them since the first one.

Thursday was all about setting up for the rest of the week. We got the books and scripts that Peter brought to sell to his table in the AmericasMart formerly know as the Apparel Mart. He was in Building 2 Floor 3 Table 84J. I set up my puppets in the Art Show. In between I caught up with several friends. I had planned on catching up with my brother and some other friends but my knee had other ideas so I stayed in and rested it for the next day, which was busy indeed.

Friday Night Workmanship contest was the hardest to judge yet. Everyone keeps bringing the level up every year. We had a couple of costumes that were camera ready and a number that were better than the stage clothing that we make as a matter of course. I would like to thank everyone who participated, the costuming track gang, Cherlyn, Scott, Freddy and Rob my fellow judges that I could not do this without them.

Saturday was most of my puppet panels and the banquet. I did one on “So you want to build a puppet” and another “clothing the puppet”. I got an early birthday present in the form of the book “Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: The Ultimate Visual History” which Insight Studios had about 75 copies available at the convention since the book doesn’t come out until October. The bonus was that I was able to get Brian Henson to sign it for me. Then, later at the banquet, I got to talk to Brian for a bit before he received the Julie Award. His speech was inspiring. I told him about the Labyrinth sketch we had done over 10 years ago. He laughed hard at it and told me ‘good job’.

Sunday I was doing a lot of things for various friends that were not on my badge list but I had promised to give a hand with this, that and the other. We had our usual feast with friends and family. I always enjoy introducing people to other people I think they should know. The only downside on Sunday was my stomach rebelling. I wasn’t sure if it was con crud or a mild case of food poisoning so I cancelled on the puppet slam which hurt me to the bone but my reasoning was that if I was patient Zero, then they didn’t want me there and if I continued to toss my cookies, they didn’t need me there. By Monday morning I felt worn out but better so I am going with food poisoning by bad pepperoni.

Monday was a day of wrapping up the convention. I packed, said good bye to friends, and did one more panel. Caroline and I then took MARTA down to the airport and got through security I think the fastest I have at that airport in a very long time. So we had a 2 ½ hour wait before we boarded the plane. We kept ourselves amused. Once in the plane, there was a slight weather delay but we arrived pretty much when they said we would. The car service picked us up and got us home.

Caroline got up and packed for the first day of school.

Photos behind the cut.

I am grateful for all that happened at DragonCon.

But first here is Caroline’s first day of 8th grade photo.

(For the VI: This is Caroline standing in the front yard.
