Well Joss had a lot to live up to since the first Avengers film. We have had several movies and TV shows that tied into that film. So how is the next installment of Marvel\u2019s plan to take over the world (of entertainment)?<\/p>\n
Pretty gosh darn good.<\/p>\n
Whedon wrote the script and managed to take a pretty convoluted story with lots of abstract concepts and make it work on so many levels. I felt that all the characters were given moments to shine and that is not easy considering how many characters there are now. <\/p>\n
The acting was top notch. The actors were given some impossible tasks to make us care about things that don\u2019t exist outside a computer and we believed them.<\/p>\n
Speaking of which, James Spader was really wonderful as Ultron. Since I watch the Blacklist, I found it funny how he, the actor, has certain mannerisms that translated well to Ultron especially his habit of cocking his head when imparting information.<\/p>\n
The addition of Aaron Taylor-Thomas and Elizabeth Olsen\u2019s characters didn\u2019t feel forced. <\/p>\n
Joss got his Michael Bay on and I think may have blown more stuff up than the first Transformers film. Lots of things go boom.<\/p>\n
Also we had a number of Matrix slow-mo moments that didn\u2019t hinder but enhanced the action so the audience could figure out what was going on before bring it back up to full speed.<\/p>\n
Are there some overused tropes? Yeah, but I didn\u2019t care I was having too much fun.<\/p>\n
And that is all this film really needed to be for me. It had to be entertaining and I was entertained.<\/p>\n
Quips were had and there are a couple of running gags that were fun. <\/p>\n
It does need to be seen on a really big screen. I was lucky enough to see it at the Zeigfeld and that screen barely did it justice. 3-D was fine but not totally necessary. <\/p>\n
I do recommend it highly for some solid entertainment and great acting.<\/p>\n
