Today I applied for the 2011 DragonCon Art Show. My biggest concern is that I uploaded examples of my work but they are not professional photos of the pieces. I may go back and redo those pictures that I still have the pieces for. The problem is that there are several pieces that I no longer have in my possession and, of course, they are some of my more current work. <\/p>\n
The DragonCon Art show is one that I jump through a few more hoops to get into. It gets my work out in front of a very diverse audience and I get a lot of feedback on the pieces that helps me work on the next set of pieces. <\/p>\n
I know I need to get into the habit of getting archival photos of my work before it goes out of my hands. I have gotten better than I was a number of years ago where I have no record of what I made. Part of that had to do with being before digital cameras existed for the common folk. And the other part had to do with my lack of foresight about making a record of my work. Some photos I have of my early work were taken by friends and others were taken by me. I should scan them in and post them somewhere. I have my first set of Doctor Who puppets (post McGann), Pinhead, Peliquin (from Nightbreed), little Morpheus, and the Klingon Quartet. <\/p>\n
Keeping a record of what you create is something I encourage. I honestly wish I had been better about it earlier in my career.<\/p>\n
There are also some simple ways to make your photos look more professional especially if you work in 3-D. One is building a cheap Photo Light Box. There are a number of tutorials all over the net. Many of these use relatively cheap materials to create the space. A pretty good one that I found can be found at DIY Photography Light Box for under $40<\/a>. Instructables has a few as well but I haven\u2019t looked through them. <\/p>\n I may pull together my kit and get some better photos of my work. I need to get either a tripod or a ladder to put my camera on since my previous tripod died a valiant death after one of the legs was snapped off.<\/p>\n I am grateful for the record I do have of my earlier work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Today I applied for the 2011 DragonCon Art Show.
