I am an early Mac user. I have had an e-mail account with Apple for a number of years now. I had a bunch of photos up on my space on mac.com. I received a notice that as of November 8th, these web pages will no longer exist. A bunch of my links to photos are about to vanish into the ether.<\/p>\n
This makes me a little sad about the impermanence of the Internet. The photos I had up go back to when Caroline was less than two years old. There are photos of costumes I have done and puppets and dolls and friends who are no longer with us. There are the photos of my 2006 Dr. Who puppets and the first batch of Phluzzies. There are puppets and costumes that I don\u2019t have any more. These were my old record which was a snap shot into my life at the time.<\/p>\n
I do have a mobile me account with all the bells and whistles that entails but I still love the simplicity of my old site. And it was there for me when I wanted to show someone an example of my past work. I feel like a piece of my internet presence is about to be snuffed out.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know why Apple is doing this but I have some guesses and in the big picture, it makes business sense. So I pulled everything off this morning to make sure that I had at least a copy of all the things I had up on that site. I double checked to make sure I hadn\u2019t missed anything. I will probably go and visit the site a little more often in the days to come knowing that soon I will get an error message if I want to visit. I can go and put the photos up in my photobucket account or other places on the net but it won\u2019t be the same. <\/p>\n
So good-bye to homepage.mac.com\/kathodavid and homepage.mac.com\/kathodavid\/costumes. You have served me well.<\/p>\n
