Not that the film being labeled as children’s ever stopped Peter and me.

But this year I saw some trends I wouldn’t mind seeing again. We had a couple of really good stop motion animation films in Coraline and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Some fun CGI films like Monsters vs. Aliens, Up(one of the best films of the year in my book), 9 (for the slightly older set), Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, Astro Boy (which we loved but then we loved Speed Racer too so go figure), and Planet 51. We had some good animal pictures with Hotel for Dogs, Alvin and the Chipmunks: the squeekquel, and G-Force and some nice live action with Night at the Museum II. We also had the return of classic Disney Animation with The Princess and the frog. (Which is also on my list for one of the best films of 2009.

We saw the everything that is old is new again trend continue with the reboot of Star Trek (which I really enjoyed), X-men Wolverine (which was OK but had Hugh Jackman in not much so that made it better), Transformers: Rise of the fallen, Harry Potter and the ½ Blood Prince (which was better than I thought it was going to be but I am glad they are splitting the last book into two films since this one was packed to the gunnels and they still didn’t get everything in), Terminator Salvation (Peter had a much better ending for it but he knew why they didn’t do it that way), and New Moon (which Ariel loved because most of the good looking males wandered around shirtless)

There were adult films too. Watchmen tried to make a splash but I can’t tell you how many people don’t remember that it was released this year. They thought it was last year. We enjoyed The Men to Stare at Goats for the excellent cast and performance. It’s Complicated was the American equivalent of a British Dramady and, again, had some fine performances.Public Enemy was fun but I am looking forward to Depp in Alice in Wonderland next year. Avatar impressed us with the visuals but the story was lacking. We have a number of screeners for films we missed in the Theater this year that we have to catch up on.

And my current favorite film of the year is Sherlock Holmes with Up and the Princess and the Frog not far behind.

TV saw a lot of my favorites cancelled like Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone. Not many new shows made it onto my list but The Good Wife and Better Off Ted did. I watched Dexter and was amazed. Project Runway may be past its prime but Launch my Line and the Fashion Show were much worse. Doctor Who has been erratic at best but then so has the schedule but I will be watching next year. Torchwood was amazing and painful to watch all at the same time. Sarah Jane was fun for the most part.

I am grateful for the good TV and Movies I have seen this year.

Since having a child, I find myself going to even more movies for children than I did before I had her.
