More for Caroline who is getting a serious case of indoor-itis than me but we have hit that part of the winter where I am looking for it to get a bit warmer. Today we are finally going back into the 40s for at least a little bit. I have a strange feeling we are not done with the snow but this is a start.

For everyone who helped me during the kerfluffle yesterday, you know who you are, I can’t say Thank you enough. And funny thing that this morning in my e-mail box I got an article from my father which sums up some of my problems with the denizens of the Internet. Roger Ebbert has an interesting blog entry about Hunt not the snark but the snarker which really got me to thinking. I have no idea why a couple of people saying nasty things set me off but they did. Also the internet phrase DIAF (die in a fire) needs to die on the Internet. I lost a friend to an apartment fire and I have been burned myself and it is not a death I would wish on anyone.

Has the Supreme Court opened a can of worms about government supported speech or have they made a good point? There was a case in Utah about a monument that a group wanted to donate to the city to put it in a local park. The city, politely, passed on the donation. The group took them to court under the first amendment. This case has been winding its way through the system and I have been keeping an eye on it but yesterday the Supreme Court made its ruling in favor of the city ( Pleasant Grove City v. Summum{This is a New York Times article so you may need to be signed in to read it but it is elsewhere on the internet news today}) I am still trying to sort through what the court said but I don’t see a conflict with the first amendment at this time however I find the phrase “government speech” a bit troubling.

Bowling last night went well for me. My average is a 143 and I shot a 167, 199, and a 197. On the last one I won the handicap pot for $12.00 and I also won a card hand worth $8.00. For the 199 and the 197, if my last shot had been a strike for either I would have had a 200 again. But it is nice to know that I can string strikes together and pick up my spares. Now if I just could throw that kind of game on Monday.

Caroline is back into her school routine after a week off. She is enjoying learning to count money. It amazes me how much she has learned in less than 6 months. She is reading to me now. Sure they are very simple books, but she is reading and identifying words that she sees and knows. It is a big step into a much larger world. Now I have to teach her how to tie shoes since she wears slip-ons.

Today is all about handpuppet bodies and a skirt. I want to help one of the instructors at Caroline’s school who has a puppet club. They are at the point of needed bodies for the heads they have constructed so I am stepping in to create the bodies to help them out. It is sort of the last step before the puppets are complete. Ariel wants me to convert a pair of her old jeans into a jeans skirt. I’ll see what I can do with the fabric she gave me. I also want to take a shot at sewing a doll from a pattern that is part of a challenge for March 1st.

I am grateful to good friends who can talk me off the ledge.

With the understanding that I really like winter and that I prefer cold to hot, I am ready for spring.
