They do point out that the absurd growth rate that had been there just couldn’t be sustained for very long. People are buying stuff online but they are getting more picky about what they are buying on line. Also a number of industries are stepping up to make shopping in the store more fun than buying online.

I thought back to what I have bought online in the past year, a couple of figures that could only be gotten online, some stuff from Master Replicas because they are fans of Peter’s work and I really don’t mind supporting that business at all since they do such good work, A couple of books and DVDs from Amazon because it was more convenient than ordering through my local Borders or Barnes and Nobel, Clothing from Land’s End, and various items from E-bay.

I have only ordered cloth once off of the internet and that was because I could not find it anywhere else in my area including the fashion district. I don’t like ordering fabric online because I can’t feel it or really see the color of it. I don’t know really how big the pattern is. I like to know what I am buying since I usually have a good idea of what I am going to do with the fabric.

I only buy clothes online from Land’s End and LL Bean because I know their return policy from back when they were just catalogues and I trust them.

I don’t see ordering food or other items like that online but then my kid will probably think that is normal.

For me the internet is more for entertainment and work related stuff rather than a giant shopping mall.

I am grateful for the ability to go shop for fabric in a real store.

There is an article in the New York Times today about the “dot calm” that is hitting the idea of buying stuff online.
