When I was in college I was a history major and had this one professor for a number of classes including my senior seminar class. A bunch of us planned for the Ides of March for over a month. Dr. Burns had a freshman ancient history 101 class and was well know for going through the blackboards with information and illustrations during his lectures. We started putting on one of the boards behind the others things like “Beware the Ides of March” and a count down to March 15th with a couple of Latin graffiti\u2019s to boot.<\/p>\n
Then on March 15th we created masks and daggers out of paper plates and used bed sheets for togas. We ran into the classroom and “killed” Dr. Burns in front of his freshman class shouting political slogans from the era of Julius Caesar and then we ran out.<\/p>\n
Next day was the senior seminar and we waited for Dr. Burns not quite knowing what to expect as his reaction (it could be hard to judge how he would react to something that disrupted his class) and he came in with the stern face so we thought we were toast. Then he said, “When I was comparing myself to Caesar, I didn’t expect you to take me literarily.” He informed us that he did hold our ability to graduate in his hand but since he was a benevolent dictator, he would let it slide\u2026. this once.
