I watch the Daily Show, no big surprise there. Peter and I were watching last night when Jon Stewart was interviewing Al Sharpton about finding out that he might be related to Strom Thurman. Sharpton has come a long way from the Tawana Brawley case which happened while I was up at the YSD so I read and heard lots of coverage about it. From that rather ignominious case, he has worked hard at becoming a advocate for civil rights and last night he said things in a calm rational manner that should stop and make people think about slavery and how far we have come from that point in our history. Now I am not saying that we have solved the problems that can be traced back to that period in history, honestly I don’t think they can all be solved. But think about it. Al Sharpton’s Great-Grandfather was owned by an other individual, his father couldn’t vote until the mid-60s, and he ran for President. I have gained a newfound respect for Reverend Sharpton from both this interview and the other things he has said about what is happening to him and his family now.<\/p>\n
Today is a day of rain. The weather doesn’t look as severe as the tornados that ripped through the southeast but we are getting dumped on and the usual “watch for standing water” warnings are in place.<\/p>\n
Wacky dreams have been the norm the past couple of nights. Things like having some marionettes I had made in the World Con Art show and discussing them with John Travolta at the meet the artist party. Caroline and I are somewhere in Europe only to discover that she left her pink blankie on the train. Fortunately, a conductor found it and gave it to the ticket clerk so there was a happy ending for something that started as a nightmare. Peter and I are at a table signing our 3rd collaboration in a series of books and I kept being asked how much of the book was mine and how much was his. This didn’t bug me in the least because I felt very use to the question and I knew how much I did. Then there are a bunch that have faded in the light.<\/p>\n
Bunch of stuff to do today but what else is new.<\/p>\n
