Cleaning both Physically and Mentally

Posted By on April 24, 2010

I have a lot going on in my head. Probably not more so than anyone else but I only have to deal with what is going on in mine. I have snippets of stories, puppet ideas, dolls, stuffed animals, more puppets, masks, and costume idea floating around. I also have family concerns, health concerns, and career concerns also. Then there are the outside influences that make their way into my brain and rattle around with everything else.

I have, over the years, worked on ways to get my mind under control. I find that writing something down tends to get it out of my head. So I make endless lists of things just to get a little piece of mind. I also find that cleaning helps me clear my mind. You’d think with that my house would be as neat as a pin. The sound you now hear is me laughing hysterically. My house is clean but far from neat. And there is a difference between clean and neat. You can have clean without neat especially if you have a lot of paper in the house that needs to stay in the house.

So today and the next couple of days I plan to clean my home while trying to sort out the voices in my head. I also plan to sit down with a calendar and work out the rest of the year in terms of what I need to have done when. The next BIG project will probably be the Field Day puppets with the other BIG project for Shoreleave on the docket.

I am grateful for things that help me clear my mind and find peace.

RTBTCKI (I don’t have to go anywhere this Weekend Edition)

And that’s a good thing in my book.

There are things that need to get done. And there are things I want to do.

I got a biggie off my plate by taking the lawnmower off to the shop for its yearly tune-up and blade sharpening. It will be ready about the point I am really going to need to mow my grass,

Glad to see that Tim Tebow got picked much higher than predicted. He is a good kid and, with some help, will become a great quarterback. Commercial aside, he has managed to steer from controversy and seems to be the kind of player that will not end up in some sort of trashy scandal. I could be wrong but considering what this kid went through before the draft, he came out with some dignity left and that shows character.

I am also looking forward to seeing what they are going to do with Young Justice the animated series. The guy they got in charge has done well with bring comics to animation and not screwing it up.

Overwhelmed with some stuff that has recently came down the pike. I am glad that I have a weekend that I am home with my family without a scheduled activity other than the normal ones.

Congratulations to the winner of Project Runway. First time for a while that I think that the judges were spot on. WARNING! I am allowing spoilers in the comments.

The cats are loving that they can sniff the air outdoors. We are starting to have our yearly problem of Stalin trying to escape. So far he hasn’t made it out.

I have done something to the ring finger of my right hand that is making typing a little painful. I have no idea what I did, I just know I did something.

Ok I think the desk get some loving attention next.

I am grateful for everything I get done this weekend. Whatever it might be.

Earth Day 2010

Posted By on April 22, 2010

40 years ago we celebrated the first Earth Day. It was created by Senator Gaylord Nelson as a hands-on day to teach both about our planet and what we can do to help Mother Earth.

I can remember discussing Earth Day in my school and participating in activities at my college. It just seemed nice to me to take a day to stop and really think about this object that we owe our very existence to. No Earth=No Us. And to figure out practical steps to help the planet to continue to exist.

Caroline has grown up with conservation and recycling as things that you just do to be a good citizen. I give her high marks for turning off the lights when she leaves a room and taking paper to the recycling bin. Her school teaches the children to be aware of these kinds of things. And that’s good because if it becomes second nature and not that big a deal to them, think of what they can do for the planet in the future.

I am a big believer in taking care of the planet we are on. And I do believe that the baby steps we have taken will have an impact in the future.

I leave you with the Discovery Commercial that just leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling. I know it was first aired a couple of years ago but I think it still is relevant today because the World is AWESOME!

I am grateful for this Big Blue Marble that we all live on.

New Who Review for The 11th Hour

Posted By on April 21, 2010

They say that the proof is in the pudding. In this case the proof was in the custard and fishsticks.

Since this is my first NWR I thought I would lay down the rules. There are spoilers behind the cut. There are, probably, going to be spoilers in the comments. I will try to keep anything spoilerish out of the page that you can see if you wandered across this blog. However spoilers are only for this episode and any before it. If you are in the UK or use other means to see DW, you are two episodes ahead of the Americans. So limit spoilers to the 11th hour and all that has gone before it.

The Doctor’s first voyage in a new body is always interesting. They have to win over the fans of the previous Doctor and see if they can interest new viewers in the program. Think of it as a renumbering of a comic book series. And there was a lot of resistance (which everyone knows is useless) to Mr. Smith stepping into the trainers of David Tennant. Also this is no longer RTD’s show but Mr. Moffat’s. So how did the team do?

Personally, I think Matt Smith acquitted himself well. I always remember that the first episode of a new Doctor tends to be a little loopy because the Doctor tends to be a little loopy until the body settles down. Or the Doctor goes into a coma for most of the episode and we get to watch the companions deal with the problem at hand with the Doctor off the playing field. It was manic and fast and loopy but it was also good TV to watch. It kept my interest and I wanted to know what happened next.

Karen Gillian as Amy Pond was a real find by the casting director. I like her a lot. She is the right kind of companion for this Doctor. I foresee a lot more work in Ms. Gillian’s future once she is done with DW. Those who have met her have described her as delightful.

Overall I enjoyed this episode and came back for the next one. It is a good episode to start someone out with if they have no idea what Doctor Who is. And it is a good episode for people who started out with Hartnell or Troughton or (well you know the rest).

Spoilers are Ahead. Geronimo! (more…)

Home for a While and it feels good

I started in the middle of March and have been going full tilt until yesterday. Now I have to clean-up from a month’s worth of busy life. But today I am taking the day for myself. I am giving myself today to get done a few things that I want to get done.

Then tomorrow I deal with things like laundry and the lack of food in the fridge. I deal with the Girl Scout cookie monies (Mom and Donna, I know I need to get your order to you. Look for an e-mail from me tomorrow). Tomorrow I deal with my work table which is right now a pile of pieces and stuff that need to be organized for the next project. Tomorrow I deal with a lot of things but today is mine, mine, mine. (With the exception of a few things that are just part of it being Tuesday.)

I have learned over the years that if I don’t occasionally take these, I can really get burned out on everything. And I need this sort of day especially after the month I just had. It wasn’t a bad month, it was just a busy month.

I am grateful for all the experiences I had, but am also grateful for a moment to breath.
