A Short Pause

Posted By on May 14, 2010

As in I feel I need to take a short pause and reassess some stuff that has been going on.

I figured out the other day that I was getting to wrapped up in some drama on the Internet. I wasn’t saying anything but I was following what was going a little too close. And I was getting angry about something I have no control over. I am not going to change the person at the other end of the conversation because this little drama seems to crop up about every 3 to 4 months from the same group of people.

I need some time for me. I need some time to figure out how I can help the people I want to help. I need to take a step back and center myself.

My brain is flying all over the place and I need to get it back on track. I am going back to the lists to get my day in order. I am figuring out the calendar for the next month.

This weekend is going to be a good weekend to do it. It will be just Caroline and me. Peter is off to Uruguay. Ariel doesn’t get back until Monday. Caroline is looking forward to Ariel being home.

Yes, I did see Supernatural. And I did cry at a couple of points. Let’s keep the comments spoiler free for a day or so. If that was were the series ended, I would have been satisfied. I think I know where the added scenes were. I plan to do a Supernatural entry soon.

It doesn’t mean that I won’t be writing here, but I might be taking a break from other parts of the Internet where I participate. And the entries might not be every day.

I need some quiet time to reflect and renew before I get into the rest of the year.

I am grateful to everyone who reads this web log. I don’t think y’all know how much I appreciate you.

Fracking Travel Plugs

Posted By on May 13, 2010

So Peter is going to Uruguay this weekend for a conference and I am trying to make sure he can plug in his phone and computer there. I have one travel set that has all the pieces but I am missing two vital pieces from the Apple kit. Which does not make me very happy. I found the box but it was open so the pieces were scattered. I found most of them but the one that I think he is going to need. It just amazes me that I was careful about putting them back when we got back from Australia but somehow they are scattered.

I have to go up to Connecticut to pick up some of Ariel’s stuff since she is coming home this weekend and we need someone home to take care of Caroline. So that is my afternoon and evening.

Tonight is the last episode of Supernatural for the season. It was suppose to be the last one ever but a late minute reprieve gave us one more season but I think that will be it. I am looking forward to it.

This weekend is all about the cleaning and straightening. Then Monday is all about the puppets for Field Day.

I am grateful for the plugs I did find.

One Day School Holiday

Posted By on May 12, 2010

Caroline gets day off from school for a teacher’s meeting that is taking place at her school. We have plans to do some things together today.

I like that she likes Cyberchase much better than Pokemon. Cyberchase is a great way to introduce math concepts to her. She had help with fractions from that show.

Ariel will be coming home from college this weekend for the summer. She is looking for a job so she can save for next year for college.

I got a bunch of cleaning done yesterday. I recovered my craft table from the things that were piling up there. I now have to continue this around the rest of the house. Next up Ariel’s room before she gets back. Or rather a quick pick up of Caroline’s toys in Ariel’s room and vacuuming.

It’s one of those rainy days off and on days. I am hoping for more off than on.

I am grateful for the dry times today.

Crisp Morning and Coffee Gooooood

Posted By on May 11, 2010

I was glad to have my cup of coffee with me at the bus stop this morning. There was a breeze that just dropped the temperature enough to make it really cold this morning. I didn’t have a problem getting Caroline to wear her coat this morning. She had been protesting because she had been wearing a skort last week but she didn’t this morning.

It does feel more like fall than spring. The trees are telling me different. This is one of the greenest springs I have seen here. The trees look healthy and the grass is growing like weeds along with the weeds who seem to be in overdrive.

So this week I start work on the Field Day puppets. I have an idea how I am going to do all this but I need to get started. I need to find my cloth for the Elephant and the Pig. And I need to buy some cloth for the pigeon.

Then onto the BIG PROJECT. Bwwahaahaaahaaaaa….if I can find the right cloth. I have some but I need a lot more or a way to cheat what I am doing.

I got into the DragonCon Art Show so I need to work on getting stuff ready for that and the Farpoint show. I am thinking about entering a doll at San Diego this year because the Dimensions in Doll Making is going to be showing there rather than at the Quilt show.

Caroline has been busy in her sketch book drawing more things. She took it to the bus stop to finish up what she was working on. She loves to draw.

(Caroline hunched over her sketch book drawing a Viking)

She is so proud that she is being given 2nd grade level math homework to do. She is working on understanding how to do the problems correctly but she is getting faster.

Peter has been working on his next episode of Ben 10 along with a number of other projects. He is trying to get as much done as possible before he goes to Uruguay this next weekend for a convention and lecture series. Ariel will be coming home this next weekend. Caroline is looking forward to having big sister home for the summer.

On the Daily Show, the May 10th edition, Jon Stewart used the words “fanfic” and “slash” correctly. I had to run it back to make sure I was hearing that right. I knew there were people of the fannish ilk there but this just proves how deep the geek goes.

OK I need to start something today. I think that the laundry and I are going to have words.

I am grateful for my daughter’s interest in drawing.

New Who Review for The Time of Angels

Posted By on May 10, 2010

Now we have the new Doctor meeting up with a villain created by Moffat and a companion that isn’t a companion yet also created by Moffat. If you want the back story on this one you need to see “Blink” for the Angels and “Silence in the Library” along with “Forest of the Dead” for River Song. Moffat seems to have discarded nothing and built upon what he wrote before.

River Song has serious being driving fans ‘round the bend since she was introduced. They want to know who she is and how she is connected to the Doctor because she seems VERY connected to the Doctor. Theories have ranged from her being just a companion later in the Doctor’s life to his wife and even a physical manifestation of the TARDIS. More on River in the spoiler part of the entry.

Amy keeps proving that she is the perfect companion for this Doctor. The way that they act and react to each other hits on all cylinders. Adding River to the mix added some interesting dynamics to the relationship. But then Amy was having her own problems by mid episode (again more discussion in the spoiler portion of our show).

I like the idea of the Angels. I liked Blink a lot and thought that the Angels were just a brilliant idea. The vague mythos given to them was just enough for me to believe in their villainy or were they villains? It is nice when a creature has some moral ambiguity to their back story. Here I though that it was a good pick up from where we left off but not a brilliant one (Yeah, I know they all can be gems) and Moffat did increase the fear factor of what his villains could and would do to survive but there is just something that nagged at me by the end of this episode.

OK, now onto the cut section of the review. I just ask that anyone commenting who has already seen “Flesh and Stone” be very careful that you only talk about “Time of the Angels”. I had to go back a couple of times and cut stuff out because I realized that I was talking about things I found out in the 2nd episode not just this one.

So here we go
