It’s cool but not cold with a light breeze that makes it pleasant. Rather nice Spring Day which is great for June since Caroline’s school doesn’t have Air Conditioning or Air Cool as they called it in the South back in the day. The longer these conditions remain, the more comfortable the students will be.
I showed the puppets to the librarian we are working with. Next is getting the script in order and practicing. Well that along with the pigeon. The pigeon is starting to become a thing. I feel that once I can get him done, I will have accomplished something and learned a lot. He’s started but the mechanics are taking longer than I thought they would.
The sniffing and coughing is allergies or rather diagnosed as allergies at this point. She is on an allergy medication that needs a few days to really kick in. Then we will see.
The iPad is an interesting device. I have been learning the pluses and minuses of this computer. Now I need to figure out the best way to get finger prints off the screen. I need to read up on it more after I get Field Day out of the way along with another writing project that is due or was due, I’m a little unclear about that.
We have the windows open so the cats are happily sniffing the outside world. One cat has stretched himself as long as he can go in a sunbeam and he is purring a happy purr.
I need to get some stuff done before an appointment I have at 11:00 and then I have Girl Scouts this evening to finish up the business of the troop for the year. Maybe I can get some answers about the troop for next year.
I am unsure about this new Bravo program “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist” because art is so subjective if you ask me. Fashion is easier to judge than a work of (supposed) art. I will probably watch an episode or two but I am dubious about the whole thing.
I need to sew up a small hole in the screen in the front room. Sometimes I just type these things to remind me to do something. Feel free to ignore.
Off to build a beak.

She has been coughing up a storm (heard her all night). And it’s been about a week since she picked up the sniffles but with all the pollen kicking around, we put it down to allergies. Which it may have been until this past weekend. The cough is much worse and now her throat looks like a battlefield. So off to the Doctor we go to find out what is wrong. However we can’t do that until the offices open this morning about 9:30.
So there is a bunch of things I need to get done or want to get done but they are on hold until I know what is going on with Caroline. At some point I do have to go by the school and show the puppets to the librarian. We have to sort out what we need to do next for the script. Field Day is in two weeks. I have to get the pigeon done by the end of the week at the latest.
After Field Day, I move onto stuff for Shoreleave and DragonCon. Caroline wants to do a costume and I have to sort out if I am doing the short version or the deluxe version of the outfit.

But first a photo of Pig and Elephant.
For the Visual Impaired: This is a picture of Gerald the Elephant (he wears glasses) and Piggy from the Mo Willems series of book.
My husband has been working very hard this week. He finished a novel (that we can’t talk about yet), a script for the visual medium (that we can’t talk about yet), and a comic book script (that we can’t…what’s that? That was announced? OK) for the Coheed and Cambria comic book he is working on.
So today he is taking Caroline out for a Daddy and Daughter Day. They are going to the gym then to lunch and then to a movie (Marmaduke which she really wants to see)
Which gives me the day to work without interruption for the most part. I figure I can do both my chores and work on my art. That is going to include a lot of power tools. I also have to find a piece of spring steel to complete the mechanism. I finally found the spring I needed.
I just found out that Frank Ballard passed away (as in I was typing this entry and an e-mail about his passing appeared in my mail box) He probably wasn’t a household name for most but if you were a Puppeteer, his name means a lot. He started the puppetry program at UConn. He taught a generation or two of puppeteer. He got other people in theater to look at puppetry differently. He enriched the landscape of American Puppetry. He will be missed by his family, his friends, his students and a lot of puppeteers who admired him greatly. I met him only once but we had a nice conversation about the state of Puppetry in America and Europe. I left the discussion inspired to continue my quest to teach others about puppetry.
So I am dedicating my performance at Field Day in memory of Mr. Ballard.
Off to make nails for the Elephant and then make KnuffleBunny and the infamous pigeon.
I am grateful for what Frank Ballard did for puppetry.

Since a lot of people were asking what the puppets look like, here are two pictures of the heads of the puppets. I plan to get the bodies done today (crosses fingers which makes it hard to sew)
