I have put in my paperwork for DragonCon. I know what I am going to do and now I have about 4 weeks to do it, a sooper sekrit project and another Sooper Sekrit costume and iron my Snape outfit which has to be done very carefully.
So most of my pictures are going to be of the stuff I am selling at my table at DragonCon with maybe a few of the other projects mixed in for fun and to tease.
Most of these things can be done (and should be done) in stages so I can work on one while another is drying. And I can ship a chunk to my parents ahead of time (Thanks Mom and Dad). I have to sort out how I am going to get a set of wings down to Atlanta in one piece but I think I have that sorted out.
Speaking of Art Work
Here is one of Caroline’s most recent creations. She drew the family as leopards. We are holding our magic wands (Thanks to GM) and we transformed into leopards to have fun.
(For the VI: There are four leopards holding brown wooden wands. Ariel and Peter are on a tree branch above Caroline and me.)
Her imagination is vast and she has a fun way of looking at the world.
I am grateful for all the creative things I can get done this weekend.

So now that SDCC is out of the way, full focus goes on DragonCon and what needs to get done for it. I have my paperwork in to the Art Show. I have one super secret project that I am sorting out. I have another that may or may not happen. Either way I have a lot to do within the next month along with the normal hearth and home stuff.
Today Caroline has camp which she really enjoys. They spend the second half in the pool which is fine by her. Gives me a couple of hours to work on a project uninterrupted and I can clean without having her explain why she needs all her lions and tigers (no bears) in the living room along with all her other toys. I also need to do laundry. And the library is a must too.
I have to keep telling myself that it is Wednesday not Tuesday. I am one day off this week.
I am grateful for the return to almost normal.

Caroline is happy. I am happy. Ariel is happy.
Peter is now asleep because there is nothing quite like sleeping in one’s own bed.
The convention went well for him. Seeds have been planted that we hope will grow to the advantage of the family. That’s one of the major reasons that Peter goes there. It is one of the best conventions in the industry to line up the next year, or so, of work and make the contacts that allow him to continue to be a writer of stuff. For example, the Epic Mickey comic came out of a conversation he has with Disney about 3 years ago at San Diego. So it may not be immediate but, over time, it does pay off.
I got it down to Peter’s office which is my goal for the day. This afternoon I get to put out all the paper that has been collecting for a while since we missed the last pick up.
Then I have to sit down with the calendar. (Before I forget, (and you know who you are), do you still want the Caterpillar? If so, it’s next on the list so let’s get back in touch.) And plan out how I am going to get to DragonCon with my sanity intact. Then there is the mighty costume that I need to work on.
I am grateful that my husband is home safely.

I read the Henry Huggins books when I was a kid. Most of the Ramona books didn’t come out until I was past that reading level but I think my younger brother and sister did read them. I really enjoyed those books and how they dealt with issues that kids worry about in a rather frank manner.
Yesterday I took Caroline and Ariel to see the film based on the book Beezus and Ramona along with some of the stuff that happened in the other books as well. I have not seen such a delightful family film in a long time. Even though it is rated G, it doesn’t dumb down the issues that Ramona has to deal with including job loss, pet loss (warning to parents they deal with picky-picky’s death quite frankly and realistically. Caroline was in tears for about 5 minutes until I could assure her that the cat playing Picky Picky was still alive), relatives, dealing with life at the age of 9, sibling rivalry, and being different from the rest of the pack.
Joey King does a wonderful job as Ramona. I plan to follow her career because she has that spark and acting chops that can’t be taught. You are right there with her every step of the way. From portraying Ramona’s vast imagination to dealing with change in the character’s life, Ms. King doesn’t miss a beat. Selena Gomez does a great job as the older sister who loves her sisters but can’t stand their behavior at times. Also the romance between Beezus and Henry is handled so well and so innocently it is fun to watch.
The whole cast has the characters down and makes the story very believable. And both the director and the writers managed to avoid taking the maudlin or overly sweet path that would have kill this film. As a viewer, you know people just like these characters in your life and you can relate to the sorrows and triumphs of the Quimby Family.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of the Beverly Cleary books because they did manage to translate from page to screen beautifully. This is also a good family movie especially for sisters. I wish it had done better that the box office this weekend. We ended up having to go a bit off the beaten path to find a theater that was showing it which is a shame since it is a film that needs to be seen if for no other reason to show others what is possible when bringing modern children’s books to the screen without totally changing them so all that is left is the title and some of the character names.
I am grateful that I took the time to see this film.

Spoilers behind the cut and in the comments. You can now talk about the season as a whole. The only reason I am putting things behind the cut is that some people haven’t had a chance to see the episode yet.
Well that was fun wasn’t it? The pay-off was nice. I have one or two quibbles but we are talking that timey-wimey kind of stuff that you just kinda backburner when it comes to Dr. Who.
I do like how everything in the season was relevant. Including what looked like a few continuity goofs but turned out to be something else entirely.
And a round of applause for the actors. They managed to make it entirely believable and some of that dialogue was a mouthful. And River Song was redeemed in my eyes.
I am grateful that Moffat was given the reins and allowed to do what he wanted to do with the Mythos. (more…)
