We are home. Back in our house and the cats were happy to see us.
We arrived to 2 to 4 foot drifts surrounding our house. A neighbor managed to get a friend to plow our driveway so we could get to the house and our cat sitter could get out which she needed to do. We’ll deal with what we need to deal with later today. Right now we are just enjoying the fact we are home as are the cats. The older guys are picking their spots around me and purring up a storm. Fig is a whirlwind of excitement right now but I bet she’ll calm down once she runs down her batteries. She has made it clear that she is happy to see us.
Overall the trip wasn’t bad. It was long but then it is a long distance between Atlanta and Long Island. The snow only really impeded our progress in Brooklyn due to roads being passable but not passable. They have about a lane and a ½ clear if that but, of course, drivers are trying to pass each other at absurd rates of speed to get that ONE car length forward. Long Island and Queens were better but you still had to use caution getting around. The plus side is that it was above freezing last night so there was very little black ice on the road.
The trip as a whole was very pleasant. It was great to see my brother, sister-in-law, and niece in the flesh rather than on the iChat. Caroline had lots of fun playing with her cousin. She also enjoyed her time with her aunt Sheila, aunt Rozana, and Uncle Sean who played with her and growled at her which she loved. I had fun talking to all of them along with some friends I always enjoy having a conversation with.
We did get home a day later but considering the conditions, it was the best move. Now we get ready for the New Year, which is going to be pretty sedate this year. Today we take the time to get the road noise out of our ears and at least one of our cars dug out so we can return the rental.
I am grateful that we got home safe and could get into our drive way.

We were going to leave this evening to get back home. That plan got shot down with the blizzard that has covered most of the area we need to drive through. So we are looking at leaving tomorrow giving the road crews some time to clear the roads. Good thing we didn’t make a run for it yesterday.
Yesterday we went to the Center for Puppetry Arts and saw their production of “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer”. Which Caroline thoroughly enjoyed as did I. The production values were great. They had lots of silly stuff for the adults including ‘elf help. Afterwards she built a Rudolph puppet. We wandered around the Museum for a bit and then went home.
It has been an interesting couple of days. I have seen people I haven’t seen in quite a while but it has been comfortable getting back together. The storm caused us to stay a little longer but it turned out for the best over all.
Tomorrow we’ll do something and then pack up and head home. It has been a very nice visit (thanks Mom and Dad) and I am glad that we did it.
I am grateful for neighbors who help us even when we are not around.

Peter and Ariel saw the Dr. Who special last night. I plan to watch it this afternoon.
Yesterday was a good day according to Caroline. She made out like a bandit in the present department. Ariel didn’t do too badly either. We all received stuff that was useful and fun.
Pete, Ariel, my sister Sheila, and I went to see TRON: Legacy. I enjoyed it a lot. I enjoyed the original TRON film when it came out in 1985. This one just showed me how far the technology has come in the intervening 25 years and it is pretty amazing. Also there was the digital de-aging of Jeff Bridges which was pretty cool. The script had a few glitches but over all it worked for me on several levels.
Yesterday evening I went with my brother, sister-in-law, and sister first to see my very good friends of long standing Jeff and Angelo and then onto the Dave Thompson Holiday party which is a long standing tradition.
Today we are off to the Center for Puppetry Arts to see the production of Rudolph they are doing. It is pretty popular. All the rest of the shows are sold out.
I am grateful for fun times during the holidays.

Right now as I start this entry, we are waiting for Peter to wake so the kids can start on the presents. Caroline is bubbling with excitement and anticipation as she looks at the tree and the presents stacked under it.
To all who celebrate it, Merry Christmas and the blessing of the seasons to you and yours.
They are saying we might have snow on Christmas Day for the first time in 130 years. Conditions are right for it. And Delta is already cancelling flights in anticipation of conditions. Caroline is doing her snow chant that worked so well on her birthday.
I am grateful that we are here at this time in this place.

We set off yesterday morning for Atlanta. Cat sitter is in place at the house (she loved Figgy), we went to Baltimore first and to the Geppi Entertainment Museum for an enjoyable romp around the place. If you live in Baltimore and have any interest in toys or comics, you need to make the time to go to this museum. It is laid out very nicely and has some very interesting things to look at.
After that we continued our drive. The only hiccup was Washington DC were there is usually a hiccup unless you are driving through at 2 in the morning on Easter Sunday (and possibly Christmas but I have never tested that one). That leg took about three times as long as it should.
There were a couple of minor traffic snarls on our way down and we stopped in Greenville for the night. There were rolling DUI checks that were slowing everything down and we were tired at that point.
The rental has satellite radio. Among the many channels that you can listen to, there is an old time radio program channel and last night they were doing various Christmas shows from programs over the years. Including the Campbell Playhouse formerly known as Mercury Theater on the Air which came to much national notice for that little play they did about War of the Worlds. But they did a lot of other dramas as well including A Christmas Carol with Orson Wells as Scrooge. It was fascinating to hear the story grounded down to just about 50 minutes. I can’t say that I agree with all the cuts but it made for an interesting listening experience.
So today we continue down to Atlanta for Christmas. This evening we will celebrate the way I have celebrated Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember.
