No Strings Attached

Caroline’s Birthday is Monday but this weekend we are doing a couple of things to celebrate it.

Yesterday she had her birthday party at a movie theater. She took her friends to see “The Muppets”. They enjoyed it. It was fun introducing the next generation to the Muppets.

It is interesting seeing these kids grow up. Her little circle of friends gets a little bigger every year. This year we had girls and boys at the party and everyone had fun.

Also “the Muppets” holds up to multiple viewings. There is a lot going on in the background that I didn’t see the first time. My favorite song is still “Am I a Man or am I a Muppet”.

Today Peter is taking her to see a Broadway show she wanted to see, “How to Succeed at Business (without really trying)” with Daniel Radcliff. Her favorite song is “Coffee Break”.

I am going to see “Seminar” with Alan Rickman since I took Ariel to see HTSAB already. The timing works out well for all parties.

Then tomorrow is Caroline 9th birthday. Like I said, hard to believe but the little girl sitting with her daddy right now is evidence enough.

I am grateful that Caroline likes things that I like and came to it on her own (OK maybe I did influence her a little on some of it.)

Although the weather feels like September.

Caroline has another half day today. We are figuring out the afternoon which will probably include making banana bread and spelling sentences.

I did get the lights done only to have a strand go out while looking at the display. So I am going to fix another set and put those in the gap.

For those who have known me for a very long time, I had to clip my fingernails today. Considering what a chewer I use to be, that is pretty amazing. I did change my behavior but it took me about 20 years to do so. Since I stopped chewing, there had been a lot of breaking or snagging but recently I have had to pay attention and clip them. I keep them short because of the materials that I play with when I build things.

Muppets did pretty well over the weekend. No, it wasn’t number 1 but I think it did well enough to please Disney. It is a film that is continuing to advertise that it is in the movie theaters which is rare these days.

Speaking of Muppets, here another photo I took at the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Center for Puppetry Arts back in 1978

If you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to go see the Muppets this next weekend. It is a fun film with just about something for everybody.

The weather is changing rapidly so I best get done what I need to get done outside this morning before I have to go inside for the rest of the day.

I am grateful that Caroline earned a good report card and is doing well in school.

Well scratch one idea that I had written up. I saw something that is basically the idea I had oh so many years ago and never got around to writing it up. Ah well. At least I have my Shakespeare project still. I think that is the one I am going back to. Either that or my monster one since Werewolves are going to be passé soon.

In one week my 8 year old becomes a 9 year old. Where did the year go? I am loving watching her grow up but it is going so fast to me. For her the next week will be a very long week but for me it is going to be very short.

So did you go see the Muppets? How did you like it? I am putting spoilers under a cut and allowing them in the comments including cameos.

This sort of weekend throws me off. I have been thinking it is Sunday for the past three days. Today is Sunday and Caroline has half days for the next two days so things don’t really return to normal until Wednesday of next week. Except we have a birthday party the next Saturday and Caroline’s actual birthday is a week from Monday. But after that things return to normal until the next thing happens. I swear normal around here is when things aren’t normal.

I get the feeling that a lot of defensive linemen are frustrated with all these new rules about how and where they can hit but Ndamukong Suh stomping on a player who is down is not something that can be debated. And his answer of “Oh I stumbled” is not acceptable at all. Sit Suh for the rest of the season, not as an example for the rest of the players that don’t get it, but for other players’ safety so next time he doesn’t “accidently” break someone’s neck. I get that the new rules are a serious PITA but that was seriously not cricket.

I need to get some artwork framed this week.

Fig tried for the Alpha Cat position yesterday during kitty politics but didn’t get very far. 2 out of 3 cats told her no. The third was undecided in the matter.

I hate mysterious bruises and cuts. I have a couple that I can’t figure out how I got them and they are taking a long time to heal.

Laundry and Lighting are on my list today. I also have to take Ariel to the ferry so she can get back to college so that has to be schedules in too. Think I am going to start with the lights and take it from there.

What will be, will be and what gets done, gets done. And remember no matter where you go…there you are.

Time magazine has an interesting article about anxiety this week. Most of the coping skills are things that I have used for years. Yeah, I still get anxious from time to time but I am much better at dealing with it than I was years ago. I do, however, get pre-performance jitters before I work a puppet in front of an audience but it is much better than it was and there are certain situations that I don’t think about it any more, I just do.

Made plans to see some of my best friends in February now to work out the rest of the things that must happen before I go.

Ok enough deep thinking in front of the computer screen for me. Off to get something done.

Going to make pancakes this morning for my family. I don’t make them when Ariel is not around because it makes too many pancakes to deal with.

Caroline had taken up Kung-Fu with a gusto. She is learning rapidly and is enjoying the physical exercise that she gets with the class.

I need to clean today and put out the holiday lights tomorrow or later today depending on what I get done this morning.

Nope, no 50,000 words for me this month. Got about half way and life got in the way. But I am going to slog on and see if I can finish up the novel I am about a third of the way through in terms of plot.

So we have the NBA again? I am in the land of not caring. I really wonder what the numbers are going to be this year both for the games and the telecasts. I think they turned a lot of people off with their shenanigans this time around.

I need to get started on a couple of projects today. One that will be paper and one that will be mix media. I need to get that and some writing done before December 1st.

I need to get the goody bags ready for Caroline’s birthday party. We are having a Muppet party at a local movie theater so she and her little friends can see The Muppets. Her choice of the film but it does my muppety heart a lot of good that she did pick that film out of the four films that were available.

I can’t believe that a week from Monday Caroline will be 9 years old. She is growing up so fast. Next year she will be, as she puts it, in double digits. My little girl is getting to be such a big girl.

Next on my to read list is the newest Dexter book. I am about half way through the doorstop that is the Harry Potter film book. It is very interesting. The comparison photos of the kids growing up is amazing.

I enjoy the weird brain storming sessions that just randomly pop-up around here.
