No Strings Attached

Today we return to our regularly scheduled programming with a few things added in to make it interesting. I have to do laundry because Peter is flying off at the early AM tomorrow and will be gone for the rest of the week. So that’s one of the things added today.

Next week there will be a lot of water cooler talk about the Super Bowl or about the Super Bowl ads depending on one’s interest. The first hype about a commercial is out with one with Matthew Broderick reprising Ferris Buller. All it made me want to do is see Ferris Buller’s Day Off at this point. Apparently it is a Honda commericial.

Two days left in January. I have two crafty projects I want to get done before Feb. 1st. So one today and one tomorrow I think. Then the rest of the month will be about Farpoint. With the exception of my time with friends down in Orlando which will be occurring right before Farpoint. Which reminds me, I may need to find a way from the Baltimore/Washington Airport to Farpoint. Any ideas anyone?

Caroline has a very busy Monday now. She has Chorus rehearsal right after school and then comes home, get into her Kung Fu uniform and straps on her yellow belt and she is off to Kung Fu. Then she gets home and eats dinner while I run off to bowling. Monday’s are busy around here. Caroline has some form of afterschool activity Monday through Thursday and now she wants to go to a pre-teen program at the YMCA on Friday since a number of her friends are going to it.

There is some adjustment to this computer. I am still sorting out the fingers and how many do what. I do like that I can have more than one desktop going at the same time. Caroline likes that the keys glow.

Getting Caroline ready for school. Again we have patterns that we follow. Right now we are up to the hair brushing part of the day to be followed by the shoes on and then getting dressed for the weather (She is going to need a hat today and gloves.) Back from the Bus Stop. Rather brisk this morning with wind from the southwest.

So I am going to finish up this ramble, post it, and get going on laundry and one of the two projects I need to get done today.

I am grateful for things that keep Caroline warm in the winter.

This is being written on my new MacBook Pro with my updated software. Things moved a little faster in the computer department than I had expected but considering the week I have in front of me, I shouldn’t be surprised.

Got some stuff done this week but not as much as I wanted to. Peter and Caroline went to California and had a number of adventures. Then we went as a family on another adventure. Friday was about recovering from travels. Saturday was about getting this computer up and running. And today was restocking the larder and getting stuff back where it goes. Along with some more computer set up. At this point I have it to where it will do what we need.

Caroline went back to school on Friday but this week is when we get our schedule back on schedule. With a few things that will be different. Peter is going out of town again this week for yet another project. Yeah, that’s a lot of travel but he has to go where the work is.

As to this blog:

Monday might actually talk about sports unless I remember something else I forgot.
Tuesday is Crafty Tuesday
Wednesday is Introspection
The rest of the week is what it is if it is
And then we are back to Sunday and the Super Bowl.

So that’s the week.

Around the house is going to be a combination of finishing one project before the end of the month and starting another that needs to be done by mid February.

I want to see if I can finish cleaning Peter’s office before he gets back. So that is being factored into the next couple of days.

I am grateful that I have this shiny new computer.

Last night the final two episodes of Chuck aired on NBC. This show had more lives than a cat at times. Chuck started 5 years ago and was interrupted by the writer’s strike which killed a lot of shows early in their young runs (Moonlight comes to mind). It was on the bubble for renewal and it looked like the bubble was going to pop. Except the fans did something amazing. There had been some product placement in Chuck for Subway sandwiches. Fans of Chuck started going to Subway and telling the people there that they were buying Sunway sandwiches because they love the TV show Chuck. This got up the corporate ladder and Chuck was renewed much to the delight of the fans.

Chuck was a fun show that ran the gambit between humor and action very well. It started as a fish out of water story and ended with a man who had grown from an awkward male to confident man. During the journey we met his parents who were not who he and his sister thought they were, various villains, and some people who might be bad or good guys depending on how we look at the situation.

We had the life of the Buy More and the people there in and we had all kinds of spy stuff going on because of Chuck’s amazing brain and the Intersect. There was Jeffster which I have to say that the conclusion to that story line actually made the most sense out of all of the endings even though it seemed the most absurd. Big Mike who’s folksy mixed metaphors were always fun had an interesting journey through the series. Morgan really grew the most through the series from Chuck’s friend who was a slacker of monumental scale to someone in a stable relationship who has responsibilities that he took seriously.

Chuck had to balance his spy life with his home life which included his sister Elle and her boyfriend Devon aka Captain Awesome. They had their own arc as well in which they got married, had a child, and Elle discovered how much she was like her father. Elle had mad mental skills that she discovered while working on her father’s projects.

Then there was Casey and Sarah and their takes on how to handle Chuck. Eventually Chuck earns respect from Casey (not easy to do) and the love of Sarah which lead to their marriage. The dynamics changed among the group and in the end they trusted each other with their lives.

Every character was given a character arc until the last episode or their demise and the body count on Chuck was pretty high and included the Buy More itself.

It was a smart well written show with a great cast and some excellent guest stars.

Last night had some parts that were painful to watch. And I did shed a tear at the end. I made up my mind what happened next and having read what the creators said after the show was done, I think I am pretty much right. It was nice having an ending to a series that left me satisfied.

I think about this time next year I can talk about what I saw yesterday. And that’s how it has been going on around here. Cool Stuff but because we have NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) with various companies, we can’t talk about it, yet. And that’s a little frustrating for me at times.

Caroline has had to learn at a young age what she can and can’t talk about in public because of what she sees and hears. This past Tuesday, she was sitting in a recording studio listening to actors read lines to a script that Peter wrote. She knows she can’t talk about the story or the information she has on the characters that hasn’t been revealed by the episodes that have already aired.

Peter has a short stay here and he is off again on another mystery project for most of next week. Again lots of paperwork swearing that we won’t talk about what we see and hear has been signed. I am figuring fall of this year for being able to talk about that project.

However I can show you why my husband is the most awesome husband in the world. He went to see a taping of the Big Bang Theory on Tuesday evening with Susan Ellison. Harlan babysat Caroline. Harlan and Caroline got along just fine. They have for years. They watched Pinocchio and Caroline got to explore the Ellison residence. And I can tell you, having been there, there is a lot to explore.

Anyway, back to why my husband rocks.

Yep, he got me the autographs of the creators of the show. Pretty cool.

I am grateful for the adventures my family had and that they are now safely home.

I find as a read and I hear things, certain words and phrases seem to pop up and catch my attention. This week the phrase was Inner Child.

Apparently Jung quantified the concept of the Divine Child as an archetype. Depend on who you read, this is a bad thing to have or a good thing to have and we all have it.

“Let your inner child out and play” was the theme to an art book I was reading. I can’t remember the title but it written for those who felt blocked or uncreative. The gist of the work was that everyone was creative, you just had to figure out how to get or recognize your creative force. It also suggested that you go on play dates with your inner child. I have to say that the image I got in my head from that one gave me a really good giggle.

My inner child is health and pretty happy. And it doesn’t stay inner that much to me. I have found that I still feel like I did as a kid in certain situations, I just learned how to deal with my feelings and the situations over time. I guess that is called growing up.

I still play with toys but now I create the toys I play with. I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside when I do something that I think is pretty incredible and then some one else affirms what I did was pretty incredible. I get angry and sad but most of the temper tantrum is within rather than without.

I do wonder how much Caroline has helped my inner child to stick around. Having a kid makes one both remember things when one was a kid and get to try new things because you have a kid.

But honestly, I think Peter and I would be going to toy stores and kids movies on our own. Just the way we are wired. I have been going to toy stores with friends for years. We mostly browsed but there were times we were looking for toys for us (which is what Caroline called Toys R Us for years). I remember almost getting kicked out of a toy store when a friend and I came across Magic Earring Ken and couldn’t stop laughing. About a month later Magic Earring Kens became hard to find as they had become a gay icon for the reasons that had us almost on the floor in hysterics.

Society has changed to where an adult buying toys for themselves isn’t as strange as it was many years ago. Now they can buy limited edition exclusives of toys they had as kids. Look at San Diego Comic Con and the speculators market for examples of this. Personally here in this household, if it is a toy then it comes out of the packaging and is play with.

I think that society has changed allowing adults to act more like children. I prefer to think of it as society allowing us to be more like us rather than the social ideal whatever that is at the time. We don’t have to hide behind doors of a club or social club to play. We do it out in the open and freely. Which I think is a good thing for us as human beings.

My inner child is healthy and happy and has plenty of other inner children to play with. I married someone else who believe that it is healthy to let one’s imagination roams and play with the possibilities. We have a child who is encouraged to think what if. Our friends have healthy inner children as well that they express in so many different ways.

I am grateful for my inner child’s health.
