Today Caroline and I are on our way into the city for a Mommy/Daughter day. She has some places she would like to go. I have one or two places I would like to look at as well.
Caroline is taking her camera to take pictures of various things that she finds interesting.
We are taking the train in so we have our books ready to go.
I am grateful for time spent with Caroline.

I believe the paperwork has been turned in or will be turned in today that will declare that we are coming to DragonCon.
DragonCon is really my end point of the year for making my kind of art. All things (conventions) lead to DragonCon for me. I am crossing my fingers that I will have room in the Art Show this year. I think I have everything sorted out on that front but not positive yet.
I have one and half projects to do before diving in. I am making a One-eyed, One Horned Flying Purple People Eater for Ariel and I have to remake a piece that got destroyed in the mail.
I have a number of things I am thinking of building for DragonCon. I think a plush calot is a must probably with maybe a baby Thark puppet since John Carter of Mars came out this year.
So here is my question gentle reader, out of all the stuff you have seen me make, what do you think I should make for DragonCon this year?
I will give you a couple that are being contemplated.
Beast and Mystique are the next Xs to be thought about as in First Class outfits.
The Calot
The Thark Baby
A couple of Fluzzies
Another type of stuffed animal that is an experiment that will either go in or drop out.
The Steam-punk Anthro-animals
And may be that set of Firefly hand puppets I keep thinking about doing but never doing.
I have also been thinking of mask making and a couple of fleece hat ideas that are totally worked out yet.
This will be on top of a couple of costumes that are still solidifying and whatever I am doing for the puppet slam this year.
However, I do want your thoughts on the matter.
Pictures of the Purple People Eater will probably be posted next week.
I am grateful for feedback and ideas that others give me. It really does help the thought process.

There are some businesses that take this day off as well. I figure probably as a travel day from all the Easter family festivities from yesterday.
Saturday was a fun day in the city. I got to show Caroline and Ariel the New York Public Library. We went to the children’s wing and saw the original Pooh animals. Caroline knows the story that way back when Peter was working for Dutton that he got permission to take the stuffed critters out of their box and play with them for a bit. She wanted to see what Daddy played with. The children’s section is small and big at the same time. It is put together for children to enjoy reading and such. Not as comfortable for the adults.
I took them up to the reading room which Caroline described as a “temple to books” and she is not far off. There is still a certain reverence for the printed word there. They even save a couple of tables that are for books (no laptops allowed). But they have accommodated modern technology with free wifi and power plugs now in the old oak tables so you can spend the day on the Internet at the library. I am of two minds about that. Honestly I want to spend a day just reading through the puppetry books they have there. Might have to do that one day.
We sat out in Bryant Park and just enjoyed the day while Peter ran over to Midtown Comics and got his copy of “the Art of John Carter” which is a really splendid book about the making of the art for the film. I am really hoping I am going to see some costumes at DragonCon based on these characters. Speaking of DragonCon, we will be there this year. Sorting out the paperwork right now.
Sunday started early with Caroline and I going to the early mass at the local church (sort of the Sunrise mass but after sunrise, barely). Since we were all up so early, we decided to go to our favorite Sunday breakfast place and have a good meal. We then came home and I set up the egg hunt for Caroline and Ariel. We got that done all before 10 AM. So in the afternoon we went a couple of towns over to see John Carter since Ariel hadn’t seen it. Caroline really likes this movie. She took Woola with her to see the film. I came home and started dinner which was well received by all. We then played two versions of family game night. At one point Ariel was on the X-box blasting her way to freedom. Caroline was taking care of her littlest pet shop critters on her DS. I was playing Bejeweled and Peter was writing another Fable short story. We then played Disney Scene-It as a family.
All in all a nice family weekend.
I am grateful for family time that everyone participates in willingly.

We were figuring out today and decided last night that maybe a visit into the city is in order. No real plans just some places we would like to visit and some stuff we would like to do. On our to-do list is to go to the children’s section of the New York Public Library.
Then we have a number of museums and places we could go. The city has plenty to do we just have to figure out what we want to do.
The funny thing is that there are places in New York City that I remember as a child that when I pass by them, I can see it through both the lens of now and then. It is an interesting sensation. I enjoy showing them to Caroline.
I am grateful for living so close to New York City.

Since Caroline didn’t have off from school for snow this year, the snow days have now come into play. She doesn’t have school today because of it so I think she is heading for a serious Jammie day (a day in which one wears one’s PJs all day).
Peter is off to the city to help with a good deed. He’ll be back later this afternoon.
Ariel is home which is nice. Yesterday Caroline and Ariel played outside in the nice weather.
Today’s fun is getting all the clean laundry folded and the kitchen in order so I can do some things I need to do before Passover and Easter like boil eggs. I also want to get everything off the stairs, which is a task in itself.
So I think I am going to get to all that so I can play Skylanders with Caroline later today.
I am grateful for my husband’s good heart.
