No Strings Attached

My brain is going about a mile a minute and all over the place. I am hoping for focus with coffee as the catalyst since I have a couple things on my plate today.

The skies keep getting darker and darker but no rain yet. I am suppose to get together with a friend today for lunch but if the weather continues like this, I don’ t know if it is possible to do. But then it looks like once this front is through, the day will be cloudy but fine.

35 days to DragonCon which means I have 30 days to get everything done for the Art Show, puppet shows and other things. And Shoreleave is about a week away. (runs around in a circle doing her best Kermit flail. Aaaaaaaaaaaa!) Ok I am better now.

I am learning a lot about my body in my Kung Fu class. I have learned that I am more tightly wound that I ever thought I was. Relax is not in my body’s vocabulary but I am working on it. The stretching is helping other problems so it is a good thing over all and I am learning.

I have a cut under my big toe which is very irritating when I step on it but I am better off right now than some other people I know. I am trying to assess if I have a piece of something in the foot but it doesn’t seem to be so.

I have found out that the Friday Night Workmanship contest is almost at capacity. We discussed last year about timing ourselves so everyone gets the same amount of attention. I also may need a strong arm to keep things moving along. I am looking forward to that.

I am also looking forward to the Puppetry Track. Beau has a lot of fun panels planned with some pretty spiffy guests. I am participating on several panels and the puppetry slam.

Waiting to see what I am going to be doing at Shoreleave. Caroline has her costume idea, pretty simple but I still need to execute it.

Whelp, we didn’t get any rain, which we really needed.

And just as I typed that, the skies opened up.

Off to be crafty.

Almost tomorrow considering that Peter’s plane gets in about 11:30.

Caroline is home and I am happy to see her. She settled right back into her home. Her cat was a little dubious at first but by the evening Figgy was curled back up with Caroline while Caroline read one of her new graphic novels. This morning I found Fig sitting in Caroline’s doorway looking very protective.

Today Peter has started his long trek back home. He had to get up at 4ish to catch the car to the airport to start his journey. That makes 3 trips in a week that have started earlier than 5. I think he is going to sleep for a day or so when he gets back.

I am looking at the calendar and what I need/want to do. *sigh* Well I guess I start at point A and see where it gets me. Shoreleave is going to be interesting.

Mets are doing what has become their usual post All-Star slide. It is even more frustrating with the number of men they are leaving on base.

I just realized that this year is more than half over. Wow, time does speed up as you get older. But then I have also been rather busy and time moves fast when busy.

I might have an entry for Crafty Tuesday tomorrow. Just need to get some stuff started and find some of my missing reference material.

Thinking about making a Beauty and the Beast Vincent puppet. Anyone think there will be any interest still?

There are times that I wish I could knit properly. Actually to purl. I can knit but I can’t purl.

But then do I need another hobby? Survey says….

The house feels more normal with Caroline in it. I can’t explain why really, it just does.

I am grateful that my little girl is home and that my husband is on his way home.

I woke up this morning to the news of the shooting at the Movie Theater in Aurora Colorado. There are 12 people dead and over 50 injured by the actions of one idiot.

I am praying for everyone affected by this tragedy. It is senseless even if we find out why.

Here is my request. Let us learn the names of the victims and forget the name of the shooter.

Too many times we remember the perpetrator rather than the victims and I think that needs to change.

I am grateful that they caught the shooter alive.

It was for Iron Man 3. I also got a set of Oswald Ears but more on that later.

San Diego Comic Con is no longer held to the confines of the convention center. All up and down 5th street and in various hotel ballrooms and restaurants were basically booths. There was a Magic the Gathering store where you could purchase cards and play demos. Various video game companies were set up on the floor and outside so more people could play demos. Youtube had a lounge. SciFi had a lounge. There were tent pavilions that had exhibits for Frankenweenie and Coma. There were stages set up where bands played in the evening. I don’t think anyone could possibly see everything at the convention.

Part of not being able to see it all was the lines to see things. You stood in line to get a wrist bracelet to stand in line to see an exhibit (i.e. the Hobbit). There were a number of rather cool scavenger hunts going on. Best of the lot had to be the Adventure Time one which ended in the awarding of a pretty nifty medal. There were lines to buy exclusive toys and games. Those got a little cut throat. How many 4 foot Shield Hellicarriers does one person need? The collector’s mentality be darned, the profiteers really did ruin it for the rest of us. And yes we did get Caroline her annual pony which will be unboxed when she gets home and introduced to all the other exclusive ponies she owns. One of the hardest toys for us to get was a Monster High doll which was reasonably priced (about what a doll costs on the shelf) and really cool. That one took some serious doing but a white knight helped us obtain that holy grail of comic con exclusives. The sad thing was seeing how fast things went up on E-bay. The number of pictures taken in hotel rooms or even on the convention floor was staggering.

There was one freebie I did have an in for. The Epic Mickey II promoters were giving away Oswald the Lucky Rabbit ears to promote the game which is shipping in November. That was one of the hard ones to get since the supply was very limited. You needed a Wasteland E-ticket to get one. Since Peter wrote the graphic novel for the game, he was on a panel with Warren Spector, Marv Wolfman, and Rebecca Cline (Disney archivist). So we got ears, which we wore around the convention on Sunday to promote the panel. I was offered from $50 to $250 for the ears on the floor of the exhibit hall. I didn’t sell them. They are very cool ears which were made just like the Mickey ears you can get at the Disney Parks but with rabbit ears rather than Mouse ears.

Other neat things I got were a Judge Dredd badge, Monster High swag for Caroline, a number of ARC (Advanced Reader Copies) of books for Caroline, Winx swag for Caroline(see a theme here), and a couple of random things that I can’t quite classify.

Overall the give aways were really neat, if you could get one. The exclusives were most illusive.

I am grateful for the help we had in getting certain items at SDCC.
