Last night/ this morning I awoke to a serious pain radiating in my neck. I have no idea what I did but it is limiting my ability to look left and right and trying to find a comfortable position was close to impossible. This morning I have found one way to hold my neck that doesn’t hurt as much as any other position. I have pulled out the heating pad and hope that it will help. Any headache is radiating from the neck. So think good thoughts for this to sort itself out.
Peter wrote on his web log about a typical day at rehab for him. We then got slammed with malicious code, which the site team has been dealing with all night. It does seem that this is not random chance but an attack on the site and I really wish it would stop. I am holding off on some stuff I want to do on the sites until it is sorted out.
Can’t do head rolls which usually sorts this stuff out. Darn it.
Yesterday I got two things done in the MUST DO column and one in the when I get around to it column. I came to the decision yesterday to schedule out each day so I can give myself breaks while I work on various projects. It can be easier to break a task down to parts and put a stop watch to it so you know how much you can get done in a period of time and you also aren’t wondering when things are going to end.
Don’t think the gym is in the cards today. Maybe family swim later with Caroline if she wants to go and my neck will take it.
And we have snow in the forecast which will also determine what we do and don’t do today. I guess I should check and makes sure I can make French toast.
I am grateful that the neck is not worse.

Yesterday I posted a pretty honest run down on Peter’s progress on his site. I figure I am going to be doing that while he is in rehab. It looks like the original release date is going to hold because of some issues with his arm that they want to deal with before releasing him to out patient rehab and back home to us.
Today I have to take some pictures of the house for the team at the rehab center so they know what Peter is dealing with when he comes home to us. Entrances to the house, paths through the house, the bathrooms, and a few other things that they need to help Peter navigate the house safely.
We have cancelled all his convention appearances until May. We will see where we are in March before we decide on the next couple of conventions. Eventually he will return to the convention circuit but it will be different for a while.
Right now our lives are a bit up in the air and will be for a while until the new norm is in place. But eventually this too shall pass and we will pick up the pieces and move on with our lives. The picture is coming a little more into focus each week and my list of “things to be done” gets longer but again this is a short-term situation and I am looking towards the long term. Things have changed and will continue to change and that is the new norm right now.
I think first on my plate is sitting down for a while and writing everything down. I need to put together several different pieces of paper and sort out some events by putting them down on the family calendar. I am feeling a little discombobulated and overwhelmed at the moment. If I can sort things out to a tentative schedule, then I will feel a little more in control.
I am working on not getting sick. Yesterday afternoon I started feeling really bad and out of sorts. This morning I am running a very low fever but I don’t feel like I did when I went to bed. I am still sore but that could be from exercising because I upped my weight on all my leg exercises. I am fatigued but I don’t feel like I was run over by a large semi which is where I thought I was heading last night. So lots of fluids are in my game plan for the day and maybe chicken noodle soup for lunch.
I continue to deal with the short term and anticipate the long term. It is hard but it needs to be done for myself and my family.
I am grateful for progress on a couple of fronts.

And we mark another milestone of him getting home. We have stairs at every entrance to our house. One of the big question marks was whether Peter was going to be able to navigate the stairs to get into the house. Yesterday he proved that he could deal with a short flight of stairs. This is a huge leap towards getting him home. I am very proud of him and all the work he is doing.
I got to see how far he has come in even a short amount of time. His PT had short videos taken of where he started and where he is as of last week. It is amazing to watch. I know we are going to have to deal with mobility issues when he gets home but he is making great strides in minimizing what we are going to need to do. And I think this motivates him to see how far he can get before coming home.
Yesterday Peter, Ariel, and I all watched the inauguration on the same channel and text messaged each other about it. Three different states but we were all watching the same thing. I liked it a lot. It was a nice ceremony with just the right touch of pomp and circumstances.
We had snow last night. Now we have below freezing with a wind chill factor of OMG. I do need to clear the walk this morning and clear a path for our lovely postal worker so she doesn’t slip. It is nice having the same person deliver your mail each day. She keeps an eye on things and if something doesn’t look right, she informs the local constabulary who will come by and check on things. She also checks in on the elderly who live on this block to make sure they are OK. Above and beyond just delivering the mail but it adds so much to the community.
Caroline does have school today. Turning her PJs inside out did not garner her a snow day.
For me today has a couple of things that MUST BE DONE and some time to get some other things that need to be done with a little me time in there somewhere.
I am grateful for being able to see my husband’s progress.

Also the formal Presidential Inauguration. The oath was given yesterday in a private ceremony per the traditions and laws of the land. I plan to watch this afternoon.
I grew up in Atlanta where Martin Luther King was based. I learned a lot about the man and the people around the man during my school days. I learned about the civil rights movement but I had the additional perk of being able to see the places they were talking about. We drove past the Ebenezer Baptist Church. We knew the places that were talked about in Atlanta. We met the people who stood next to him during his famous oratories. The schools probably taught more about the civil rights movement because a lot of it was local history to us.
The civil rights movement is not over. There are still inequalities here in the United States but we have gotten better. We have gotten to a point that we are looking at a generation that doesn’t look at the color of one’s skin but the content of their character. It took a couple to get there but it is fading into a piece of history and that where it needs to go. A curiosity that we look at as a bad part of our history that we need never to go back to. Something for historians to study and argue about amongst themselves. Not how things were then or are now.
Dr. King gave a voice to a movement and that voice has helped so many over the years. He showed us the best that we could be and challenged us to become these people in our daily lives. I accept this challenge and try to be that human being to others.
THE DAVID FAMILY :
Yesterday was very quiet. Housework filled most of the day. May have given me too much time to think but a good night’s sleep has put a lot that I wasn’t feeling good about when I went to bed into perspective.
Peter finished the revisions on X-Factor 253 and sent that off to his editor. He is working on the next one pending notes from the editor and a few other projects that he has been working on both before and since the stroke. He has gone back online with a few tweets and a web log entry at www.peterdavid.net. He will be an online presence more on the weekends since they work him pretty hard during the week. He said that he is feeling stronger and more himself these days. I hope he continues to do that.
Today Caroline and I are going to work on a couple of projects that need to be done. I am hoping later today to pull out my doll making materials and start on a doll or two. I also want to make a Phluzzie or two for some form of raffle or auction.
Ariel is working on an auction for Peter at Farpoint. She can be reached at Help4PAD (at) Gmail (dot) com. She is also working on an online auction so get in touch with her.
I am thinking of sending books to Farpoint. Peter can’t sign them now but he will after he gets back. Check the Crazy 8 table for this at Farpoint.
I am grateful for the words of Dr. King.

RTBTCKI stands for Random Thoughts Before the Coffee Kicks In. I started it one morning when my brain felt fragmented and I had a bunch of stuff to say. I have used it since then to tell/warn readers that my brain might not be quite at fighting form while I am writing this. I do sip my way through my first cup while I write this and tend to stop when I feel the caffeine kick in.
NFL playoffs are today. The owners of the NFL and TV stations are hoping for Patriots vs. 49ers since that can be spun as East vs. West and a whole lot of other things that make for good viewing numbers. Personally I am hoping for Ravens vs. Falcons. I think it would be a better game and to see the Falcons in a Superbowl after the Falcons of the 1980s would be a lovely thing.
Yesterday Caroline and I went food shopping. I cleaned the cat boxes in rather cold temperatures. And Caroline and I finished the Lego Hobbit Hole that Caroline got for Christmas. I have to give a tip of my hat to Lego for this new system where they have the build in stages and the bags with the pieces for each stage are marked. Made it a heck of a lot easier to put the whole thing together. Also we had all the pieces which we hadn’t had when we put together three of the Harry Potter Lego things. Caroline is currently playing with the characters planning their adventure and be interrupted by the Dragons from How to Train Your Dragon needed a cup of sugar or some carrots. Hilarity ensues.
Peter sat up on the edge of the bed by himself yesterday. You really don’t think about how you use your whole body to do things and that the muscles on both sides are called into play to do even simple tasks. He has gotten his right side strong enough that he can now move himself to a seating position. He continues to improve and each improvement is a blessing.
Today Caroline and I are going to go to the local Library. She has some subjects she wants to get some books on and a couple of series that she is reading through. I have a couple of topics I want to get books on to read.
We are also working on putting away everything that got shipped up from Atlanta. That includes gifts that need places to go and other things that need to go back from whence they came. I also need to put the Playstation 3 back since it is our Blue-Ray player and find the DVD remote for it. The cats are loving the boxes that are in the living room.
Caroline has tomorrow off from school for Martin Luther King day. We are sorting out what we are going to do since most of the town will be closed. I think the YMCA will be open but I have to check. There is an inauguration to watch as well.
Well off to start the day since I can feel my brain working at a faster clip.
I am grateful for Legos and the hours of fun they have given me over the years.
