RTBTCKI And my glasses are Where? edition

Posted By on July 3, 2013

I am hoping some where in the house. I have a bad feeling that I may have lost them yesterday in our running around to various activities. Either way I need to either find or replace them ASAP.

The summer is tumbling through my fingers. Hard to believe that we are two weeks away from San Diego Comic Con. And Caroline is two weeks away from her adventures in Florida. Then Shoreleave and then the end of the Summer Dragon*Con. Wow.

Caroline has figured out what she wants to do as a costume this year. And it is doable. It will need some make-up and one heck of a wig.

Despicable Me 2 is great fun and not quite what I was expecting but I loved it. I laughed so hard I cried. We saw it in 3-D and there was enough there to make it worth it.

Teen Titans Go is a fun series.

Brain is working through a bunch of lists. I need to settle down and work my list for Dragon*Con Art Show. But first the cat boxes.

Peter has finished both his PT and OT. He is at a point where he can continue on his own to get better. This is a significant point in his recovery. And it happens 6 months after the stroke itself. He has come so far and I am so proud of him.

I am grateful for Peter’s recovery.

I shook hands with a Robot

No really I did.

(for the VI this is Robonaut 2B and me shaking hands. Robonaut has a gold helmet and a white body. I am wearing a black hat, grey shirt, and black pants.)

Let me back up a bit. We went to Houston for a gathering of Star Trek authors to just spend a couple of days with each other outside the convention circuit. Through some wonderful contacts (Thanks Amy and Paul) we got a backstage tour of NASA at the Johnson Space Center. Peter wasn’t sure if he was up for the walking and stairs that was required. So he decided to take Caroline on the public tour and let me wear my feet down to the ankles walking around NASA.

I have loved NASA since I was a little kid. I can remember watching the moon landing and the first man walking on the moon. I build a plastic model of the Saturn Rocket and other space related things. I knew I couldn’t go in space because I didn’t (still don’t) do well with heights but I thought about other ways I might join NASA. Eventually my life took some other turns but I still loved NASA.

So here I was talking to astronauts and scientists about various projects that NASA is working on. I got to see Robonaut 2A in action aboard the ISS (International Space Station) while watching the goings on in Mission Control. I got to see behind the scene of NASA 2.0 including a new modular version of Mission Control. I saw the next generation of Space Suits being tested. First redesign since the 70s.

Even though it was Friday I am still processing all the information I was given.

I am grateful for all the people at NASA that gave their time to talk to us.

First Day of Caroline’s 2013 Summer Vacation

(A side note: Today on Peter’s Blog was reprinted one of Peter’s articles for CBG about our first convention outside of the United States. Brought back a lot of fond memories. It can be found here)

Caroline has her whole summer stretched out in front of her. She has a bunch of things she wants to do. Also she likes that her bedtime is a little more flexible.

Today she does have her usual Monday activities which include flute lessons and Kung Fu so there is some structure.

Yesterday she went off with Peter for a Daddy & Daughter Day. They did various things that they enjoy doing.

She is reading her way back through her Sailor Moon Manga among other things.

Wednesday we are having a Mommy & Daughter day by going into the city and doing some fabric shopping among other things.

It is going to be a busy Caroline week.

I am grateful that Caroline has a myriad of opportunities this summer

Peter is signing at Fourth World Comics today (6/22/13)

And Caroline and I will be with him.

Caroline is happy to be starting her summer vacation. She was so excited that she went to bed on time because she was tired. Some day next week I am taking her into the city for our fabric adventure.

I really do need to sit down with a calendar and figure out where we are going to be when.

Monsters University was a fun film. We saw it in 3-D which was nice but not absolutely necessary. Stay until the end for a punchline to a set up earlier in the film. No, it is not a perfect film but it does go into territory that is not talked about often. Also you know why Sully stuck with Mike and Mike with Sully all through Monsters INC.

I will not be seeing World War Z. No interest.

Caroline is joining the local library reading club for the summer. Not they she needs more encouragement but it is nice to get her rewards for her hard work.

I am grateful for things that amuse Caroline.

Last Day of School and First Day of Summer

So this year Caroline’s summer vacation starts on the first day of Summer.

Happy Summer/Winter Solstice to all who celebrate.

Caroline is happy to start her summer vacation. I am almost ready for her to start her summer vacation.

Caroline had an excellent teacher this year that helped her through some rather difficult times. She had a teacher that worked hard to get to know her students and work to their strengths rather than try to cookie cutter the lesson plan.

I am amazed at how much paper Caroline has brought home from her desk. Recycling is a must here.

There are several ways today can go. I am deciding which one it will be.

Maybe it will clarify after a little more coffee.

I am grateful that Caroline had a good school year.
