2nd Day of the London Super Comic Con and Beyond

Posted By on March 17, 2014

Or rather sort of beyond as I am in the hotel room with our bags mostly packed since we are going to a hotel in the West End of London for the rest of our stay. Makes it easier to get around the city rather than being out by ExCel London. This evening Peter will be signing at Forbidden Planet which should be fun.

The second day was a little slower overall but that was not a bad thing since Peter signed on Saturday for almost 5 hours straight before he got a break. We had time to talk to people. Caroline participated in a documentary on comics and drawing, which was fun for her. She sold quite a few drawing and has some pocket money to buy things with for the rest of the trip.

We had a lovely time and were very well taken care of by the convention. Met a lot of people and had a chance to talk about all kinds of subject including, strangely enough, the NBA. People kept telling Peter how happy they were to meet him considering where he was last year when we were suppose to be attending. We were happy to meet them too considering where Peter was a year ago (home but in out patient rehab).

It was interesting being the people with the strange accents at the convention.

Also there were a lot of photographers photographing the cos-players. I saw a lot of high-end equipment being hauled around and set up in various places for photo shoots. I have seen less equipment being used for a professional shoot.

Today is all about London and tomorrow we are off to Cardiff for the day.

I am grateful for all the people that we met this weekend.

Travel and the first day of the London Super Comic Con 2014

Travel was smooth but slow as our plane was delaying into JFK so we were delayed about 40 minutes getting out. Once out it was a smooth flight with very little sleep for the adults but Caroline fell asleep about half an hour in and stayed asleep until we were about half an hour out from Heathrow so it was a blink of an eye to her.

We got to the hotel along with Billy Tucci. The driver took the slightly scenic route, which gave Caroline a lovely look at London.

We took naps of various length since Peter had been up 36 hours straight, had dinner, walked around a bit and then went back to the hotel to tuck in for the night. Peter and I went downstairs and met up with various people that we know and met a number of people including Jonathan Ross who introduced us to a bunch of other people. We had fun talking about all kinds of subjects. Peter and I then dropped by a convention function and again talked to people that we knew and met new people. So we went back to the room having met a whole bunch of new people.

We got up at a reasonable hour and processed to the convention. Peter spent the day signing autographs and talking to people. Caroline earned money drawing various characters. I had fun with the War Doctor puppet and did some crowd control at Peter’s table so that the other tables could let the customers get to them. It was a long day. Caroline got a little overwhelmed so I took her back to the room for a break. We had dinner with the always wonderful JK Woodward and made a bunch of new friends. Over all a very nice day with lots of people who walked away happy. I got to say thank you to people who helped us out last year in our time of need. The convention has been lovely to us.

I am grateful that the first day went so well.

RTBTCKI the AAAaaaaaAAAAAA edition

Ok I am a little stressed over the next couple of days. Travel gets more interesting each time I go through an airport and since the disappearance of the airliner with two people with fake passports on it, I know that this time ‘round is going to be an adventure and probably not in the good sense.

Secret Project #1 is kicking my butt. I know how I am going to solve my few problems with it and get it done today. However I only have so many hours I can devote to this before having to move on packing.

Today is about laundry while costuming for puppets. Tomorrow is final errands and the like. Cat boxes are in the mix this morning since I am not going to know what the weather is tomorrow morning and I would like to get this done outside.

I have a little list, scratch that I have a large list that I am bullying my way through. Going to start with one thing and move to the next and the next.

I need coffee. My brain is not firing on all cylinders.

I am enjoying spring training baseball. It gives me hope for spring.

Speaking of Spring, we had a really nice day yesterday. It was warm and gave the hint of nicer days to come. But we are going back to the deep freeze tomorrow. So much for Spring. I have that sinking feeling that we are going from Winter to Summer in a weeks time when it does happen. I miss my Spring and Fall.

I am grateful for things that get done in a timely fashion.

Because I have one project I am close to finishing and want to get it done today and because next week I will be in the UK and not blogging much or at all depending on the WiFi.

Once we get back if I am given permission, I will show you pics of secret project #1.

I am grateful for fabric that does what I want not what it wants.

RTBTCKI The I still dislike Daylight Savings Time with the passion of 1000 suns edition

Posted By on March 9, 2014

Two projects MUST BE DONE before I depart for London.

And then there is the usual stuff that must be done before we depart so my next week is going to be a busy one. This includes making sure we have the various plugs and the like that we need to keep our electronics going.

This weekend Caroline and I are finishing up her science project so all she has to do is the write-up. We need to turn it in before we leave. It is going to take most of the week to gather the data and set up the experiment. We are creating water filters with recycled materials to see if we can clean water that would be then boiled and used for drinking. We figure that if we can put it together with things that you can find in poor areas, it would be a good thing to create since so many children die from bad water.

This morning it was hard to get out of bed. I have expressed before my dislike of daylight saving time and this morning I express it again. It is pointless.

Through Neil, I found out about WorldCon, Hugo presenters, and fandom’s dark secret of being haters. Apparently because of a few very vocal individuals, those sitting at the Hugo banquet rather than being entertained by Mr. Ross, who is a fan and a published author IN the genre, will get the usual awkward presentations that will be forgotten much like the winners of the Hugo. Most people outside of science fiction now know World Con and the Hugo awards now due to the publicity this is getting. Nice going a small number of people in fandom for setting fandom back about 20 years in people’s perception. For a group of people who declare that they are such forward thinkers, they have some things very backwards. Honestly we, being the fandom community, are not all social awkward and socially inept or this vindictive. Yes, I understand that Mr. Ross’ humor is not beloved by all but he has hosted other awards shows including comic book ones and there have been no complaints.

And that is something that is bothering me, people getting upset before anything happens. There are these big ruckuses that are a lot of noise about nothing. People are adamant that they are never going to do something before all the facts are in. And when it happens, everyone seems to forget what they were objecting to or was telling everyone that it would never work. We seem to spend a lot of time getting upset over trivial minutia that really doesn’t matter. I learned that in spades last year with Peter’s stroke and the aftermath, which is still ongoing.

I am looking forward to the second half of the season of Once Upon a Time which starts up tonight. I am tired of the fan over reaction to various story elements that may or may not be true. Yes my favorite character bit the dust in the last episode, but I am willing to wait and see what the writers are going to do with the aftermath rather than pout and declare I am never going to watch the show again. Again with the “if they do this then I am going to throw a tantrum problem”.

It is nice to watch Spring Training baseball.

I am grateful for weather that hints that spring is around the corner.
