RTBTCKI The Dreary Monday Morning edition

Posted By on November 17, 2014

At least, I tell myself, it is not snow.

I watched a couple of football games yesterday. Overall not too happy about the outcomes of most of the games but a few made me smile. There is a sports championship drought in New York and it is only getting worse. But I don’t feel as bad as Raider fans who watched their team lose their way out of the playoffs yesterday and there are still six weeks to go.

My brain feels fuzzy and a little unfocused. I am working on getting some clarity back but not coming as easily as it usually does. I am hoping some seriously strong coffee and a set task will help along with exercise.

I love my daughter. I think that is pretty clear. I love my self starting daughter who, this morning, got up, showered, dressed, fixed her breakfast and her lunch, practiced her flute, double checked so she was sure she had everything she needed for school today and left for extra Math help. When she gets home, she takes about half an hour to decompress then does her homework, practices her flute, and does whatever afterschool activity she has that day. She goes to bed about 9 without fuss and gets up at 6 to start it all over again. She still finds time to play and read in there somewhere. I am very proud of her.

I watched Once Upon a Time last night and apparently didn’t see the same show as some other folks from all the fan reaction this morning. People seem to forget what one character went through last year including have no will of his own. Of course he is going to do anything to become his own man again. Also, as much as a woobie as he is, he was set up from the beginning to be one of the villains of the piece. Morally ambiguous could have been this character’s middle name. So when we get the explanation, which is coming like a freight train out of control, remember that. Also I know the other character that he interacts with was nowhere to be seen this episode but considering what he was doing, you think he would want her around?

I spent the first half of Atlantis trying to remember who all these characters were. Didn’t help that they introduced a few new ones without explanation until the much latter half of the episode.

So today I think is going to be cleaning up Peter’s office so he can move back down. It is a good rainy day project.

I am grateful for kitty detente.

I have reached that day

Posted By on November 16, 2014

In my web log.

I declared at the beginning of the month that I was going to write an entry a day for the month of November and I have managed to keep it going.

This morning I got up, got my coffee brewing, poked around the Internet, and found nothing coming to my brain for a topic to write about.

I could write about the weather but it is cold and cloudy.

I could write about what I did yesterday, which was to be a responsible adult while Peter and Caroline were off having a lovely daddy/daughter day. But that wasn’t very interesting.

I could list what I need to do today but again not that interesting since it picks up from yesterday and goes from there with the mundane that must be done to keep hearth and home in some sort of order.

There are a couple of topics I am avoiding until I calm down enough to write about them rationally. Fandom is irking me right now so I am stepping away for some perspective.

I have things I need to do which seems to be over riding my writing urges. Or rather redirecting them. I have something I am working on that needs to be done by mid December.

I think my brain is resetting for winter.

I am grateful for what I can write.

Weird Dreams Last Night

Had something to do with being drafted into an army (little fuzzy as to which one), missing basic training because I was ill, and being told that I had to be ready to go next week. Most of it was trying to figure out who I could tell that I didn’t get basic training so I was useless to them until I did that. And the dread of leaving Peter and Caroline, which I really didn’t want to do. No clue what that all means but it was a pretty wacky one.

Took Inky in for her vet follow up this morning. She got her shots and gave me the stink eye all the way home. She was very underweight so it is nice to see that she is catching up to what she should be. She’ll probably always be small but that’s fine. Fig isn’t exactly a large cat either and she was in similar circumstances. But she is settling in and making peace with the other two. Millie, frankly, is indifferent to her but Fig has been a bit territorial especially when it comes to Caroline.

Need to make some decisions about a couple of things today. None of which I am looking forward to but all need to be done.

I have a head cold that is making my teeth hurt. Peter goes to the west coast, three plane trips, 100s of hand shook, and two countries. He is just fine and dandy. I am the one who is feeling miserable and all I have been doing is sticking close to home for the past week. I am thinking either Caroline brought something home or I picked it up at bowling. I am not a good sick person.

Aaaaand the cats knocked a bunch of books over chasing each other around the room. At least they are playing together…I think.

Welp, got to go deal with that and a bunch of other things that need doing.

Hope y’all are having a good weekend.

I am grateful for healthy cats.

Happy Birthday to my Father 2014 edition

Posted By on November 14, 2014

Today is my father’s birthday.

I want the world to know how much I love him.

He has always been there for me and I can’t believe that was easy at times especially during my teen-age “you don’t understand me” years.

He has always encouraged me to be the best at whatever I was doing.

I love science and math because of my father. I never thought girls couldn’t do math because my father told me that I could do math and showed me how. He encouraged our love of science and math. I am trying to give Caroline the same feelings.

My love of theater comes from my father. When I was a child I loved a picture that is in the family album of my dad on stage. When I went into theater both of my parents encourage my career. They supported me going to the Yale School of Drama. My graduation present was a Hirschfeld print of the Phantom of the Opera that hangs over my desk. My father had to convince the framer to use the color scheme my father wanted for the matte.

I love Pogo and that’s thanks to my dad.

He introduced me to the classic science fiction and fantasy authors. We read the Hobbit together. I can still remember him reading me Wind in the Willows.

He was a busy man but he always has made time for his children and grandchildren and we are richer for it.

Happy Birthday Dad. I want you to know that I love and appreciate you.

I am grateful that my Da is my Da.

This Week feels too long and too short

Posted By on November 14, 2014

When Caroline has a day off from school and it is not on a Monday, the week gets a little weird. I had to look at a calendar to figure out that it was Friday the 14th of November which means that November is just about halfway done.

We finally got one of the cars back and went to see Big Hero 6. It is nice to be able to go places when we want and not have to plan a chunk of the day for where ever we need to go. Any way back to Big Hero 6, the film is a lot of fun and has real heart to it. This is one where you need to stay until the end for the post credit scene, which is set up a lot earlier in the film and is just wonderful. We left with smiles on our faces and a warm feeling in our hearts. I think big screen is a good idea because there is a lot of detail in the larger city scenes that is fun to look at. 3-D works but not a must see in 3-D film.

So today is restock the larder day that is rather bare. I have a couple of things I need to get done before we get to the weekend.

Amazon has sorted out with Hachette and a couple of other publishers so that’s good. Just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

Speaking of said season, I told Caroline that Christmas commercials and the like didn’t show up until after Thanksgiving. That the Macy’s Day parade ends with Santa and that’s the start of the season. She said she wished it were still like that. She doesn’t particularly care for Christmas before Halloween is even done. Her exception is my exception, which is crafts stores where, if you are making gifts, you need your supplies 3 to 4 months before the Holiday.

No more Doctor Who until Christmas except the children in need teaser.

I’m going to get started on my shortened week and get things moving around here.

I am grateful for the ability to sort out what day it is eventually.
