Moving Right Along

Yes, I do have that song now stuck in my head.

Today is going to be a home day. I plan to get stuff done around here and Caroline has a friend coming over later this afternoon.

The faces for the puppets are mostly done. A few details need to be done and those are quick jobs when I have the materials in hand. Also Aquaman needs a hair cut and Rose Tyler needs hair styling. So today’s goal is to get most of the clothes done. This will probably take a little longer than usual because I have to pattern a lot of it.

There are a couple of things I need to do for other people but I might have to wait until I have my computer to do them.

I worked out the calendar and I have less time than I thought to get some stuff done.

Not in panic mode rather more can I get this done mode.

We are having rain off and on today. Right now it is a gully washer but it was not raining five minutes ago.

I need either more coffee or more sleep and I am trying to decide which it is. Had some back issues that took some doing to get a position I could sleep in comfortably and stay asleep.

So going to go off and productive today.

Tomorrow I shall account how I did this week and what I want to do before leaving for Orlando.

Tuesday will have photos in Crafty Tuesday.

Wednesday will probably be another entry in conventional wisdom.

Thursday is the tricky day but I think I can keep the streak going.

If I can get Thursday written, then I am good to go for the rest of the month.

I am grateful for things that stay put.

RTBCKI A Lot is Happening Edition

Thursday I went to the gym to exercise. It was leg day. The leg press machine had enough weight on it to squish an elephant and the individual who was using it just ran away to grab another machine and started putting absurd amounts of weight on that machine. I pulled the plates off of the machine to get it down to where I could use it.

Now this machine is in one area where people have to dance around each other especially when each person is carrying a plate. This is only made worse when someone moves a bench into the area to use another machine in a way it was never designed to be used. I pulled off a 45 pound plate and turned to put it back on the weight stand and had to quickly twist the other way as someone else came through with another 45 pound plate. In the twist my back said ‘Nope’ and I almost fell to my knees as the pain hit. I managed to get the plate onto the stand and carefully stepped away from the area.

I spent most of the rest of Thursday recovering from the events of the morning. Puppets were at a dead stop because I couldn’t sit at the sewing machine. Writing was at a dead stop because I couldn’t sit in the desk chair without a twinge in my back.

Friday morning it felt better but delicate. I could sit at the sewing machine but really not more that 20 minutes before I had to stop. Standing was OK for a while but there were limitations on that as well. I am rather proud that I got Caroline’s project cut out and the pieces that need to be machine sewed put together and I got all the pieces I need for the puppets along with starting to work on them.

This morning feels pretty much back to normal which proves to me that I have strengthened my core to save me from this sort of thing which use to happen much more often.

I have a couple of days to finish the puppets and then we are off to Orlando for MegaCon. I am looking forward to seeing a number of our friends. It’s been a while for all of us. I am hoping to get a puppet to one person I promised it to and meet someone that Peter gave a puppet to.

Peter gets back Monday and we are leaving Thursday.

The cat/house sitter is happy that they get the house for the weekend. It will be easier for them since we are down to two cats under the age of 5.

So today is pretty much planned out. Let’s see if I can stick to the schedule.

I am grateful for things that make my back feel better.

Place Saver or Entry

I haven’t decided which but it’s one or the other.

But I have been so good about keeping up with this web log so I want to continue.

Today Caroline has her class trip. She is most looking forward to racing down a zip line. My kid the daredevil. She sure didn’t get her mother’s fear of heights and roller coasters. She loved both. She is fearless but not stupid so I am not worried about her and look forward to the adventures I will hear about later.

For me cat boxes and puppets is my day. Don’t plan to leave the confines of my yard today except to go and get some milk for the weekend.

Peter arrived safely at KeyCon.

Maybe more later or maybe not. I am capricious at times.

I am grateful that Caroline gets this day to be a kid.

Throwback Thursday How Did I Get Here?

I have had the Talking Heads song “Once in a Lifetime” stuck in my head for about a day now.

I have been thinking about how I got where I am now. The number of things that had to happen to get me to this point is staggering. The number of things that had to happen to make sure Caroline was on this planet is even more so.

This is not where I saw my life when I was much younger. I am not unhappy with the situation but I think if I went back in time and told myself all that was going to happen, I would laugh at myself. I would also tell myself to take care of my knees and don’t play with acetone without gloves.

I have worked in theater and publishing which are not as different as one would think. I have worked in comic book stores and bookstores. I have had a lot of different jobs in a lot of different fields over my working life.

I have had to rewrite my bucket list twice now and only a couple of items have been moved from one to another.

My life has been interesting and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Regrets I do have a few but those have led me to here and I feel that here is where I need to be.

I got up at 5 AM this morning to see Peter on his way to KeyCon in Canada this weekend so some of these thoughts may be coming from a lack of sleep or not sleeping until I wake up which for me these days is about 6:20 when Caroline gets up.

Today so far I have cleaned up the kitchen, fed Caroline a nice breakfast, packed her a nice lunch, made coffee, took the garbage cans to the curb, and wrote this.

For the rest of the day I am looking at going to write, go to the gym, work on puppets, cut out Caroline’s pattern for her cat, and, if it stops raining, cat boxes.

Anything beyond that is going to be gravy.

I am grateful that I am where I am.

RTBTCKI The Sending Peter to Canada Edition

Peter will be in Winnipeg this weekend for KeyCon. Next weekend we will be in Orlando for MegaCon. Then June is pretty crowded too. July and August aren’t much better. I think our next real break is after DragonCon.

Amongst the travel are all the activities that we participate in and things we have promised to do.

I thought we had cut back this year, not so much apparently.

Yesterday I didn’t want to go to the gym and gave myself half a dozen reasons why I shouldn’t go including a back spasms and some lower back pain. But the more I thought of it, the more I realized I was making excuses. So I packed my gym bag and went to the gym. I had to modify some of my workout due to the back but overall it was a good one and I worked my core pretty hard which is what I am feeling this morning. But my back doesn’t hurt so that’s a plus.

Today is all about the puppets and getting the puppets moving forward. And repacking Peter for this convention. And clean up from the past couple of days unpacking and repacking.

Then I have to schedule the rest of the puppet build for the year.

And writing, somewhere in there is writing.

Inky has found a way of curling up that her markings match up and she looks like a Pokeball. Caroline finds it hilarious.

NBA and NHL playoffs are still going on. The Raptors are proving to be the wildcard in the mix in the NBA. I think the Penguins are going to win the Stanley Cup this year. Honestly I am getting most of my news about other sports from Around the Horn on ESPN.

Just FYI when an Amicus Brief is filed with the court, it has NO legal standing.

amicus curiae. n. Latin for “friend of the court,” a party or an organization interested in an issue which files a brief or participates in the argument in a case in which that party or organization is not one of the litigants.

So Klingon is still copyright Viacom aka Paramount aka CBS. The books published by Pocket books and other publishers are still under copyright. Plus when you get down to it the only person on the planet who can say what is in or out of the Klingon Language is the inventor of the language and that would be Marc Okrand. Anything else is just speculation and supposition.

One misleading headline and everyone goes nuts.

But then we have had a lot of those. I honestly don’t believe anything I read on the Internet unless I can source it three ways from Sunday. A lot of sites are news parody sites and they mimic the URLs of real sites with just an addition designation at the end.

OK going back to discipline and staying off the Internet and the games I am playing on the iPad to get some real work done.

I am grateful for friends who are known for cool things that they created.
