Halloween 2016

Posted By on October 31, 2016

Happy Halloween and a blessed Samhain to all that celebrate and happy whatever to anything you happen to be celebrating. There are a lot of holidays attached to this date.

Tomorrow I will talk about Caroline’s Halloween costume so I thought today I would show the rest of Drawlloween. I am rather proud that I did manage to do the whole things.

RTBTCKI Bits and Bobs

Caroline and I attended her friend Pixie’s Bat Mitzvah yesterday. It was held at the Free Synagogue of Flushing, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The sanctuary is magnificent with stain glass and marble but it still felt homey. Pixie did very well and her family is very proud of her and rightly so. Her parents are friends to Peter and me so I have watched this child grow up from a babe in arms to the young lady she is today. The reception was nice for me that I got to catch up with a bunch of mutual friends who I haven’t seen in over 5 years. Caroline had a blast with Pixie and her friends especially after they established that they had common interests, which included Dr. Who, Sherlock, and Once Upon a Time along with gaming and some other fannish activities. Bravo to her parents for such a lovely time that was had by all.

Peter has returned from helping out his sister this week. He saw his mother as well who is not in the best of health so it was important for them to spend a little time together now.

Today and tomorrow are all about Halloween. I need to figure out another way to attach Caroline’s cape so she can wear it comfortably. I think I am going to start seeing if I can attached it to her chest plate. Lots of photos will be shown on Crafty Tuesday along with the rest of Drawlloween. I also have to get the comics ready and the like. It is going to be two very full days of work.

Tuesday is the Marvel Screening of Doctor Strange which, if I think about it, I have been waiting to see since I was probably eight years old. Friends who have seen it are raving about it. The critics, who seemed to have it out for this film before they saw it, are in love with it. Apparently the 3-D is worth it and the alternate dimensions are pretty trippy. I am so ready to see this film and seeing it with a Marvel audience who really ‘gets’ this sort of film is the icing on the cake for me.

Wednesday is the day that I think I can breath again. I am, of course, expecting something else to rear its ugly head and we are off to the races again.

I will be participating in NaNoWriMo this year. I have apparently been trying to get through this project for 10 years with only coming close (about half way) two years. So we have another go at that.

Jets are playing the Browns. Giants are off. The Falcons are playing the Packers.

Cubs fans, I feel your pain. They have put themselves in the must win scenario which hasn’t work out for most teams in their position. Their bats went to sleep at the wrong time.

Cleveland looks to go two for two in professional sports championships. They won’t be getting any football rings this year so will have to settle for Basketball and Baseball.

At the end of November I need a beta reader for this novel I will be writing. Anyone interested?

Off to get ready for Halloween.

I am grateful for the ability to work out in my head how to deal with an issue.

RTBTCKI I own a dead man’s coat

Posted By on October 27, 2016

Fall has come to Long Island. The trees are starting to shed their leaves. The evenings are much crisper and one needs a coat to wander out to pick up one’s daughter from Show Choir practice.

So I go into the closet and pull out a fall coat that fits me very well. Peter got it for me at a charity auction at a convention he went to. It is a costume piece that was created for Kung Fu the Legend Continues for David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine that was used quite a bit. It is a lovely piece of workmanship and works really well for this sort of weather.

The World Series is tied at one game apiece and the Cubs came roaring back. Cleveland had some chances later in the game but couldn’t capitalize on them like the Cubs couldn’t the day before. Next game will be played at Wrigley Field and it is going to be interesting to see the energy that is going generate. It is still an awesome ballpark.

Caroline’s costume is coming along nicely. It has to be done for the Harvest Dance tomorrow night so we have some work to do. Then the weekend is some puppet repair and one build along with getting the comics ready for giving away.

Monday is Halloween so we need to be ready for that.

Tuesday is another adventure which I have no idea what the outcome is going to be so more on that after whatever happens.

Then things calm down for a bit, I think.

They have announced that the first episode of what will probably be the last season of Sherlock will be on New Years Day. It is entitled the Six Thachers. The Christmas episode of Doctor Who looks insane. Apparently we are delving into Super-heros.

Peter is up in Connecticut helping out his sister so it is just Caroline and me right now. He will be back sometime late Saturday. My mother-in-law is not doing too well right now so this gives Peter some time with her too.

I think it is going to rain today. The sky just has that look to it.

Off to work on the next piece of the costume.

I am grateful that Peter could go help Beth.

Crafty Tuesday: Drawlloween 2016 Week 5

Behind the cut are my drawings based on the prompts given.

It was an uneven week and I think I am only truly happy with one but I kept going.

One Week to Halloween 2016

Posted By on October 24, 2016

So this week is all about getting ready for next Monday. I have to finish Caroline’s costume which she is helping me with. And secret Project number 3, which needs to be done by the next day. Caroline’s costume has to be done by Friday for the dance so I have the weekend for that but not really since I am also getting the comics together for our give away.

Jets and Giants won and the Falcons yet again got screwed by the Refs and lost. The officiating this year had been miserable. The number of calls that aren’t being made are almost as bad as the calls that are being made. I know we have new rules and new protocols in place but can we all get on the same page as to how these rules work?

Today I am picking Peter up at the airport and bringing him home. Then working on the costume that Caroline and I will continue to work on as a chunk of it is going to be paper that needs to be cut. I have to make pattern pieces to trace before cutting. Makes me wish I still had access to the Center for Puppetry arts very old but mighty band saw that we used to cut paper for the make your own puppet classes.

Tomorrow will be the next installment of Drawlloween which has been going OK. I have had some excellent ideas but my execution of those ideas has not been great which is not putting me in a happy place but I said I would do it so I will.

I am grateful for skills I have learned over the years that put me in a good place to complete this costume.
