Which I am putting behind a cut because this one is going to be very photo heavy.
Caroline and I were out running errands and talking about her upcoming 14th birthday party. We went through a variety of ideas when one of us came up the convention idea. We joked our way through how we would do it and then realized that we had something there.
I wanted to call it Caroline Con 14 but Caroline balked at the name so we settled on C-Con 2016.
It went well and I think the kids had a lot of fun.

Yep, she is fourteen now. For those of you who have been following her adventures. Let that sink in for a minute. She is four years away from being an adult in the eyes of the law. Two years away from being able to drive. Seven years away from being able to order a drink.
Dear Caroline,
Fourteen now. Your second year as a teenager. Hard to believe that fourteen years ago I first held you in my arms. I know I say that to you but it is so true. I do think I blinked and now I see the young woman in front of me.
And that’s part of it, you have gone from baby to toddler to child to young woman. I have watched you grow and mature and am still amazed at what you can do.
You were confirmed this year, which is a big step. You worked diligently on your homework from your conformation classes and your hours of giving back to the community.
You are still doing service for the community through the National Junior Honor Society helping both your school and the village.
You are unselfish and giving which I love among your many other stellar qualities.
Yesterday we had your birthday party with your friends. We plotted it out and I think it went pretty well. You are at an age that I don’t have to amuse you the entire time just give you the means to amuse yourselves. Makes parties so much easier.
I love your love for all things fannish. You have your own loves and fandoms. You love Stephen Universe and this year you got to tell Rebecca Sugar how much along with most of the voice cast of the show. You love Fantastic Beasts as much if not more than Harry Potter. You are into Anime, Disney movies, comics, Super heroes, Star Wars, Star Trek, and so many other things. This year you sat on your first panel at San Diego Comic Con and talked about your experience of growing up in a fannish family and how it is different from even the generation before you.
Today your friends decorated your locker for you as is traditional in your school. You will come home and we will have the dinner you requested this evening along with some birthday cake.
I love you Caroline and I am proud of you.

This weekend we will be hosting Caroline’s birthday party. Considering how legendary her last birthday party became, we had to figure out how to match it or exceed it.
So this year we are hosting C-Con 2016 with a dealers table, an autographing, an art show, costume call, gaming, panels, and a con suite or the equivalent.
The con suite will be where the food and beverages will be served.
The art show will be created during the party as we encourage the convention members to make art.
Gaming is easy as we have plenty of card and board games to be played. Last years Apples to Apples game was epic and now we have exploding kittens to play.
The dealers table is set up for the goodie bag. We have tons of things that we have picked up at conventions and the like that we have no use for or interest in but apparently are still considered cool to others so we give them a budget and they can ‘buy’ the stuff that they want.
We have said that costumes are not mandatory but we are going to pull out the cloaks and simple costume pieces so those who want to dress up can.
The panels and autographing are going to be rather tongue in cheek but should be fun.
So an entire convention in an afternoon.
Next step is to make the badges for the convention.

I am thankful for the pets I have had in my life. Right now that consists of two cats that appeared on our doorstep and we took them in. Figgy is Caroline’s cat. Caroline spent Fig’s first weekend indoors in the kitchen with her. Caroline brought in things to do and let Fig come to her. They bonded over that weekend and Fig has been her loyal cat ever since. Right before Caroline comes home from school, Fig sets herself up in front of the door ready to greet her when she gets home. Inky is my cat. I am the one that gentled her and she trusts me. She like to try to become one with my hip. She has fur between her toes that makes her slide across the floor without traction, which has a great amusement value.
I am thankful for Disney for so many reasons. We have had many an adventures at the parks. We have made good friends through the Mouse. They bought Marvel and we get our health insurance from Disney. Disney movies have entertained me probably my entire life.
I am thankful for the Muppets who opened the 90th Macy’s parade today. The Muppets have entertained me. I now know a number of people who worked with Jim Henson and the Muppets. I have friends who work on Sesame Street and other Muppet productions. We figured out that the number of us who met Jim is dwindling as time goes on so we hold that close to our hearts.
I am thankful that my daughter is a good student and works hard at school. We got her report card yesterday and she had no grade under a 95, which was amazing since she is taking mostly the advanced courses. She is a self-starter and has her system in place of how she does her homework. I rarely have to ask her if she has done her homework. I think this will serve her well in life.
I am thankful for my parents. I don’t think I can ever really express how much I appreciate them. They have been in my corner my entire life. They have supported me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. They made sure that we had a safe and happy childhood. They taught us by example. They took us on trips all over the United States. They made sure we had a well rounded education. My love of art comes from my parents. I now appreciate the exhibits I have seen over my life.
I am thankful for my brothers and sister. They know why.
I am thankful for my husband. I again don’t think I can express how much he means to me. He is my partner and my helpmate. We are very suited for each other. We have never run out of things to talk about. We make each other laugh. We are there for each other good times and bad, sickness and health, no matter what.
I am thankful for my stepdaughters. They are wonderful adults who have done many amazing things. I am glad that I got to watch them grow up. I am thankful for my in-laws for a number of reasons including that we get along.
I am thankful for my readers. I really do appreciate that you take the time to read my ramblings. I also appreciate the time you take to comment here or tell me at a convention that you are one of my regular readers.
I am grateful for more things than I can list here.
