I am a very proud Mama

Yesterday Caroline found out that she has been accepted to her dream school, The Fashion Institute of Technology. Her major will be film and animation.

That’s the short version. Caroline’s sister Gwen told Caroline about FIT and the more Caroline read about it, the more she wanted to go to it.

She applied to back-up schools which she got into all but two and those were at the bottom of her list.

But FIT was where she wanted to go.

In April she was informed that she had been waitlisted for the school. She was devastated to put it lightly. They informed her that there would be a final decision by July 1st

After some digging, we found out that one of the things that was clogging up the system was COVID and the number of students who were accepted in 2020 had deferred to 2021 thus limiting the spaces for this year’s seniors.

Didn’t stop her from wondering what she did wrong or (there were a lot or she came up with).

This wore on her in not a good way and colored her mood with the unknowing and know that COVID had yet again cockblocked her.

Yesterday she received an email that said

Congratulations, Caroline!

It is my pleasure to offer you a seat in our incoming Fall 2021 class!

This was the best news she had in a while.

She paid her fee immediately and is now waiting to be able to get all her other ducks in order.

I am so very proud of her.

She worked very hard to get in. Her grades are stellar. She has continued to learn about drawing and animation.

And her efforts have paid off.

I am grateful for Caroline getting into her dream school.

There is a group on Facebook that does readings of all kinds of things called A Plague of Players that was started by Laura Antonio during the time of isolation. It was a way to get friends together and read plays. It started with Shakespeare but branched out to movies and TV shows especial Star Trek which a majority of the participants are fans of.

Flag Day 2021

Or as I call it, my Sister Sheila’s birthday.

Today my sister has planned a day that is very her. I told her it sounded like her kind of spa day.

I am very proud that she sold a story to an anthology this year.

She works in a grocery store and has spent the last year and a half on the frontlines of COVID in many ways. Including having to politely inform people of limits for purchasing certain items. Each customer was a potential infector.

Needless I have been very worried about her. Less so now because she is vaccinated.

She is a writer. Has been probably her entire life. She started a journal when she was very young and has kept up the practice to this day. She is also a writer of fiction and non-fiction.

She has worked through a lot to get to this year. I am very proud of her for doing so.

I would tell her that she was my favorite sister and she would always point out that she was my ONLY sister. And that is why you are my favorite I would tell her.

Happy Birthday Sheila. Hope the day is lovely to you.

I am grateful for having my sister in my life.

Is it Inky Fur or Spider Web?

Inky is our long hair cat with a very thick under coat. I try to brush her every other day to keep her fur from matting up.

I was picking Inky fur off my pants when I realized I had just pulled off a spider web that was there probably from going outside this morning.

I have a lot to do and less time than I think I have including a make-up test.

I am going to start with one and work to the next.

Our dishwasher gave up the ghost. The door springs went first but I found way around that. Now it is leaking water. Unless I can figure out that problem, I am handwashing the dishes for a while.

If it is not one thing then it is another.

Crafty Tuesday will be all about the build for the Wrath of Khan.

My hip seems to have sorted itself out. This makes me happy.

I am grateful for mental gymnastics.

It is either not recognizing my finger strike or it is double spacing, so I have to keep back spacing to type correctly.

I tried to switch to my left thumb, but it slows down my typing.

We are switching things up at work. We have new display layout that we are now incorporating, and it is a lot of heavy lifting. On top of that we have to continue putting out the product we get off the truck. I feel so lucky that I work with the crew that has each other’s backs.

We have a couple of events coming up.

Sunday Peter and Caroline are in the Plague Players production of the Wrath of Khan. Peter is Khan and Caroline is Joachim. You can find the zoom link to the event here.

The next week Caroline has her driving test and audition for one of her top choices for her post-secondary education.

On the 21st of June, Caroline is attending her prom which is being held outdoors in the middle of the village. The local businesses are all pitching in and along with the village government to give these kids a prom to remember considering how screwed both their junior and senior year was by COVID.

On the. 24th of June, Caroline graduates. She still has two more days of school but that will be online as will the graduation.

We are working out the summer schedule which will include conventions and travel for Caroline.

Today we start with errands and then I am in build mode for the next two days.

It is a busy time in our family. This is in stark contrast from where we were last year still dealing with the unknown.

I am in less pain this week. That is a good thing allowing me to get things down.

I am grateful for all that is happening.
