Baby it’s cold inside

Posted By on January 6, 2018

Right now it is 10 degrees F outside going down to 1 degree F (not a typo) with a wind chill factor of -10 to -20 degrees F.

Inside we are at about 57 degrees F with the furnace going at full strength. We have some space heaters for the bedrooms for additional heat there. We have blankets and sweaters and sweatshirts and warm socks and tea to keep us warm.

We are having soup for dinner to try to keep warm.

I do like cold weather. I prefer it but this is even a little too cold for me.

It is too cold to think right now.

My fingers are cold enough that they are not doing well with the iPad and iPhone.

Tomorrow will not be better but Monday and Tuesday we will have a little bit of a thaw.

I am grateful for things that keep us warm right now

Hello 2018, we are off to a spiffy start

I did not make it to midnight to greet the New Year. I didn’t make it past 10:30 due to being ill.

That is the first time in a long time that I was not awake at midnight of the New Year.

This morning the cough is so bad that I can’t keep anything down. Fortunately I didn’t have really anything to eat since lunch and only coffee this morning. Unfortunately I now have nothing in my stomach and down to the dry heaves.

I think today is going to be more recovery from being sick. If I have the energy, I might get some cleaning done today. Or I might be a couch potato. I am letting my body decide that one.

I am staying as away as I can from Peter and Caroline. Lots of hand washing to keep germs down to a minimum.

I made a list of things I would like to get done this year. Not resolutions but more a to do list to be added to and subtracted from as the year goes on. My resolution is a repeat of what I try to do every year. Be Kind. Be Polite. Help where one can. I figure by doing that I am trying to make the world just a little bit better.

Right now on the top of the list is breath without coughing. I would like to have that down sooner than later.

I am not a good sick person.

I wish you all a happy and healthy 2018. May the year bring you want you need.

I am grateful for shiny new years.

Good-bye 2017! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

It was an interesting year for us.

Biggest event of the year was getting the tax lean off of our backs. That was thanks to fans, friends, family, and artwork. It was Eric Larsen who gave us the solution to fill in the gap between the go fund me and the amount we needed. I was able to thank him for that at NYCC this year.

We went to a lot of conventions and made new friends while catching up with old friends.

I made a number of puppets that I gave to actors and the like.

I finally got two puppets to their owners that have been waiting for a while. My worktable is clear for the first time in a while. Not that I don’t have ideas for what I want to do next but there is no pressure there.

Writing has been hit or miss for me for many reasons. I have a couple of things I needed to get done and a couple I want to get done. Right now I am not pushing anything trying to give myself some regroup time.

We lost my mother-in-law this year along with a number of friends and acquaintances. My theater family took a number of big hits in that department this year.

We saw films, read books and comic books, watched TV, and did our fannish things. We said good-bye to the 13th Doctor and welcomed the 14th. Marvel movies were kick-ášš. Wonder Woman proved that a female superhero can carry a film. Coco hit us in the feelings. Star Wars was enjoyable.

We had our good days and our bad days. Pretty much like any other year.

Wishing all my readers the best for 2018. May it prove better than its predecessor for all of us.

I am grateful to everyone who helped us in 2017.

Mixed Feelings

Today I was suppose to go into the city and get together with my gaming group to take on a group of Kobols that were destroying a city.

Instead I am home with a fever, sore throat, and a cough while snow falls outside my window.

Today is also when, five years ago, we announced to the world that Peter had a stroke. We waited until we knew that he was on the mend because there was a period of time that we had no idea what was happening next.

He is sitting next to me as I type this. He is considered recovered from his stroke and can live his life with minor changes.

He is better than he was a week ago. On Black Friday he took a fall at the Bridgeport ferry station and we now know that he has a number of pinched nerves in his back leading to pain on his left side. They have put him on something that is working because he can stand again without bellowing in pain.

We got back from our visits to Atlanta and to see Ariel and company very late on Thursday. I am still recovering from the road noise. We had a number of hours added to our trip because of someone in Virginia who shot and killed his ex-wife and then led the police on a chase on I-95 North eventually rolling their car after hitting several other cars and shooting at a couple of cops. Since it was an active shooting, they couldn’t let anyone through. They had to back us up and send us south to go north. My GPS took us very far out of our way but that was the best for us because we avoided the horror show on US-1.

Hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day in 2017.

I am grateful for getting home in one piece.

Christmas 2017

Happy Christmas All

This has been an interesting one indeed.

Short version is that Peter’s fall on Black Friday damaged his back and he has pinched nerves causing all kinds of havoc.

However I am typing this from Atlanta as we worked out a way for Caroline and I to be here to celebrate with my family.

Caroline got some truly nifty gifts from my family including a drawing pad for the computer and her first throwing knives that my brother machined for her out of old files.

We went and saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi for a second time and noticed a lot more things going on in the background than the first time around.

This evening we are consuming roast beast, visiting friends, and watching Dr. Who. I am going to miss Capaldi so very much.

Tomorrow we are off to the Center for Puppetry Arts then lunch with a friend.

Wednesday Caroline and I are visiting Ariel, Anthony and AJ.

Thursday we are driving the rest of the way home.

Friday we have various things planned.

Saturday I am going into the city to play D&D.

Sunday is New Years Eve.

And that finished out 2017. Not our best year nor our worst. More on that later in the week.

I am grateful I can be here in Atlanta with my family to celebrate Christmas.
