Good Friday 2018

Posted By on March 30, 2018

It is also the first night of Passover and one of the rare ones that lands on Shabbat, which means extra passages to be read at the Seder. This year we are moving our family Seder to the end of Passover since Peter is at a convention this weekend.

I find myself reflecting a lot this week. The time between Palm Sunday and Easter aka Holy Week, I find myself thinking a lot about religion and my beliefs kind of sorting myself out before Easter.

This next week is Caroline’s Spring Break except Friday where she gets to go back to school because of the snow. I don’t think a lot of the kids are going to be there since I know a number of families that are traveling and they were figuring on the Monday return.

Caroline and I have a list of things we want to get done today including dying Easter Eggs.

I am grateful for a greater understanding of my religion.

Busy Weekend No Fooling

Posted By on March 29, 2018

This is one of those years that Good Friday falls on the first night of Passover, which is what Good Friday was. Also Easter is on April 1st. Both holidays are dependent on the phase of the Moon rather than a solid date.

Peter has a convention this weekend. Caroline and I have a number of things that we need to do here. I have a lot to do during the month of April so I need to get set up for that.

I do know that we are going to make Easter Eggs somewhere in there.

Today is about getting Peter out the door and to his plane on time.

I am grateful for simple packing.

Crafty Tuesday The Tale of Scruffington

Posted By on March 29, 2018

Which is being posted Wednesday because I spent my time that I have allotted for writing a web log trying to get the photos off my phone and into my computer which is no longer seamless but a really PITA to do. Not particularly happy with Apple revisions for something that use to be so simple and easy to do. But that is a rant for another day.

As I stated last week, the puppet I needed to get done was one that I had promised Michelle Gomez almost a year ago.

Jack Davenport as Disheveled Norrington or as he has been come to be known on the Internet Scruffington.
(For the VI: This is Norrington from the 2nd Pirates movie. His hair is messy and he has a couple of days growth on his face. His blue coat has gold trim that is distressed. His white shirt is more brown than white. He is holding a black chest)

Scruffington the Puppet
(For the VI: This is the puppet based on the previous photo. The coat is distressed as is the vest and shirt. He has puppet scruff on his face and his hair is tied back.)

Michelle Gomez and Scruffington
(Michelle is wearing cat ears, a grey jacket and black t-shirt. Her brown hair is pulled back in a ponytail. Scruffington is wearing a blue coat with white lapels, his brown hair is pulled back.)

Later Michelle posted a short video of Scruffington on her Twitter feed. She is having fun with that puppet.

A bonus for me going to Regenerations 4 was being able to get a puppet to an actor that I have been trying to get a puppet to for 20 years now. Now all the of the Fivish Doctors have their puppets as do most of the other Doctor Who actors in the piece.

Me, Colin Baker, and the 6th Doctor Puppet.
(for the VI: I am standing behind Mr. Baker. I am wearing a DW baseball hat, blue bowling shirt over a black shirt. Mr. Baker is sitting wearing a dark blue shirt over a t-shirt based on the new Doctor’s shirt with a rainbow pattern across it. The puppet has blond curly hair, a multi-colored coat.)

I am grateful that we went to Regenerations this past weekend.

Happy Birthday Mary Aileen

Posted By on March 26, 2018

Mary Aileen is the person on the planet I have been a friend with the longest. We met after I moved to Atlanta which was a long time ago and found ourselves living in the same area when I went to Yale for graduate school then when I moved to Long Island.

To say Mary Aileen knows books is to say that Neil deGrass Tyson knows something about the stars and planets. Mary Aileen is my go to for things to read and has been for years. We raided her brothers’ bookshelves for things to read after we were done with our library books and our books that we would lend each other. She uses all this knowledge as a librarian along with other skills she has. She is still a voracious reader.

She is an excellent seamstress and makes a lot of her blouses so they are of a fit and style that she likes. She had an excellent eye for color. She makes amazing quilts. Caroline loves her baby quilt along with the pillows Mary Aileen has made for her for special occasions.

Where I think she excels is at stuffed animals. Her critters are lovely and there is a lot of thought that goes into the title of the piece. Her latest piece is a cow dressed as the 4th Doctor entitles Dr. Moo. Whimsical is the adjective I would attach to her work which can be found on her website entitles The Mouse Hole. She is very clever.

Happy Birthday Mary Aileen and thank you for the years of friendship and support.

I am grateful that I still have Mary Aileen in my life.

Friday Follies or how much CAN I get done in the day?

Posted By on March 23, 2018

Peter, being the amazing husband that he is, got Caroline to the school at 4:15 this morning and then took the car into to the dealership for standard maintenance. I foresee a nap in his future.

I have a list a mile long that needs to be done today. I will start at one place and work my way down so that it is done. I do not foresee a nap in my future.

Caroline will be battling with her team using their robot that they have been working on for months for this event. She has learned so much and had so much fun so far. She has also made new friends and feels a part of the team.

Our neighbor was a good neighbor and used his snow blower to break through the ice dam at the end of the driveway. Caroline cleared the sidewalk and we tackled the car together.

Onto the first thing on the list.

I am grateful to being able to get things done in a timely fashion.
