So this morning we have had thunder and lighting, hail, rain coming at the house sideways, and maybe a little snow or sleet mixed in. It has been a splendid day to stay inside warm and dry.
Yesterday was quiet here. Peter was at the Big Apple Convention. Caroline was catching up on her homework so that today she would go in prepared. I finished the short story for the Glenn anthology.
Today I had some plans that meant I had to leave the house. I am now revising those plans to things to do in the house.
My computer battery is draining much faster these days. Need to figure out why.
I am grateful that I got that story done and I feel good about it.

I have tinnitus. Have had for years. I didn’t know that the sound in my ears was tinnitus because I thought ringing in the ears meant that you hear a bell ringing constantly and mine was a high pitched hum. In my early 30s I got my diagnosis that I have tinnitus and some ways to work around the sound along with things to try to make it less. I also thought that local anesthetic was anesthetic manufactured in that state.
I have over the years used various tricks to keep it at a dull ignorable roar.
January I had a bad cold and cough. It was a virus that was going around and all you could do is wait it out.
Afterwards the noise in my ears went from 4 to 11 and stayed there. I have a hard enough time sleeping but this would keep me from sleeping or if I woke up made it hard to fall back to sleep.
Went to my Doctor who sent me to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist and this past Thursday I went in for my appointment.
On the positive side, my hearing would make a 20 year old jealous. I still have both my high end and my low end although the high end on the left is a little less than the right. That would be due to age and the firing of a gun backstage ever night for a month without hearing protection because I was young and foolish. Thank you Night Mother. Fortunately I learned from an early age to wear foam hearing protection at concerts and the like.
So it is down to the tinnitus and I have been given new tricks to try to bring it back into the background including finding a noise (white, brown, pink) to counteract.
Funny thing was that when I went into the sound proof booth to do the hearing test, I had quiet for the first time in a long time. It was so nice but I can’t live in a sound proof booth. I am thinking of how I might be able to recreate it and have an idea or two.
So I push through and hope that the sound will fade in time.
I am grateful for quiet.

We have two Friday the 13ths this year. The other one is in July.
I learned about the superstition from the comic strip Pogo originally but became curious and learned the various mythologies behind the day. Funny that it seems to be solid in the United States and England but that Greece and Spain have Tuesday the 13th as their dread day. Italy is Friday the 17th. So more days to be fearful of.
I note the day but do not believe in the disaster that the day foretells. In fact I found out that I was going to the Yale School of Drama on a Friday the 13th. I have had other cool things happens on the day or rather I am more aware of the day and what happens.
Today is finishing up my short story for the Glenn anthology or rather today and tomorrow since I will be here about myself since Caroline will be at Robots and Peter will be at the big Apple Convention in the city.
There will also be the usual household chores seen to like laundry and cat boxes.
I am grateful for my education through Pogo.

I have two brothers and one sister that I grew up with. There was no doubt among our friends and our parents’ friends and our teachers that we were related. The running gag in Southern Fandom was that we were cross-gendered clones of each other and my mother’s PhD dissertation (it wasn’t).
I also have friends that I consider like brothers and sisters to me. There are not a ton of them but those people are very dear to my heart. I know that they have my back in all things as I have theirs.
Yes, I did fight with my brothers and sister. It was mostly stupid stuff and was resolved pretty promptly. We don’t hold grudges or rather our parents by example showed us how must that was a waste of our time and energy so we learned.
No, we don’t away agree on all things but we are individuals with our own experiences and lives. I am a little suspicious when someone always agrees with you due to a few incidents in my life with some individuals I have cut out of my life.
But we do respect each other. We do love each other. We do have each other’s backs and help out as we can. It can be something simple or complex, if we can do it we do.
We all credit our parents for the people we are today and we do it proudly. They made sure we grew up knowing that they believed in us and what we wanted to do in our lives. They gave us the tools to be the people we are and I hope they take pride in that. They raised some interesting people.
I am grateful I can call Sean, Sheila and Patrick my brothers and sister.

I keep telling myself.
Caroline got to school on time.
I have a list of things that need to be done as well as some scheduled activities that I will do the things around.
I need to clean my glasses. I really don’t understand if there are on my face most of the day, where do all the fingerprints and smudges come from?
The cats are having another round of kitty politics. Fig has exerted her alpha position so Mewlan has taken to trying to beat up Inky who is having none of it today. I have not stepped in yet but might if this continues much longer. This all started with a spat over a spot on the couch.
I knew who would win Project Runway All Stars and more power to him. I was hoping that one of the other two would win but maybe that is why I don’t judge fashion shows. I am hoping that this gives the other two some backing for their lines because they both have points of view I can get behind.
Off to clean my glasses and start the rest of the day.
I am grateful for clean glasses to see through.
