There is a group on Facebook that does readings of all kinds of things called A Plague of Players that was started by Laura Antonio during the time of isolation. It was a way to get friends together and read plays. It started with Shakespeare but branched out to movies and TV shows especial Star Trek which a majority of the participants are fans of.

This month’s entry was Wrath of Khan.

Peter got tapped to be Khan so we were off and running to get a good costume for him.

We lucked out that there is a T-shirt that is Khan’s costume so one problem solved.

Finding the right wig was a little more of a challenge but I found it at Party City by looking at the color section of the store where they have all the blue stuff in one section and the red stuff and the green stuff. I think it is for sports, but it has been useful to me for other things.

I grabbed his black cloak to cover the t-shirt while they were on Ceti Alpha 5.

Then there was his Ceti Alpha 5 gear.

Khan on Ceti Alpha 5

(For VI: Khan is wearing a blue turban with a piece of the cloth across the lower part of his face. He has sliver goggles with a small slit across where is his eyes are)

(For the VI: This is Khan with his blue turban. He has removed the cloth to reveal a black mask with a pattern of chain running down and across)

The glove was a bit time consuming.

(For the VI: This is a left black knit glove with silver circlers sewn down the fingers to the wrist of the glove)

The Helmet was a whole other challenge.

I started with a plastic army helmet that was adjustable as the base. I used Demin for the cloth to cover the helmet. Next, I took foam core and scored it to get the bend I needed for the visor. I attached a mirror piece of paper to the foam core then attached that to the small brim of the army helmet.

(For the VI: The helmet is covered in blue cloth and the mirror visor was attached. )

(For the VI: Sideview of the same helmet and visor being sniffed at by Fig)

For the next step I went to the Internet to find out how to tie a turban. I learned there were very many ways to do it depending on gender and religion.

(for the VI: Peter has the helmet on his head with the blue cloth covering his lower face.)

(for the VI: The helmet on a stand with the blue cloth down but the mask covered in metal chains)

(for the VI: the helmet without either mask in front)

I was quite proud how it turned out.

Peter wanted to look bloody and burnt for his death scene. I had one minute and 10 seconds to do this. It was a challenge but I had done things like this before so it was a matter of getting the materials together and doing some test runs.

Here is the burnt side of the face

For the VI: This is the left side of Peter’s head. I created a burn make-up by created a black charred half moon then flesh then the raw wet skin burn

And the bloody side of his face. I had to make the blood really fast because the other stuff didn’t have the viscosity I needed.

(For the VI: Peter has blood dripping from his mouth and an open wound under his eye)

This project had me stretch a bunch of creative muscles that I haven’t used in a while and re-sparked my want to make things to amaze people.

I am grateful I was able to pull this off.
