Meliorism-(n) the belief that the world tends to improve and that humans can aid its betterment

I do believe that. I have believed that my entire life.

Even when we seem to be living in a dystopian hellscape there is hope and people helping people and unselfishness.

I have a number of friends who are beekeepers. They learned the skill because they are concerned about the bee population and the world’s eco system. They encourage others to plant flowers that are bee friendly. Funny thing is that with COVID and the shutdown, the bees are doing better than they have in years.

Recycling is something I have been doing most of my life.

In the 1970s there was a shift from one and done and toss into a landfill to recycling what we could. Reusable bags became a thing. We took a hard look at our carbon footprint and decided to do something about it rather than foisting it off onto the next generation to solve.

Sometimes it is a simple compliment that improves someone’s day that makes the world a little brighter. Or picking up some litter and dispose of it properly.

My sister has been working on clearing weeds at a local labyrinth. She does it as a form of meditation and she wants to improve the look of the area for others. She doesn’t expect thanks or praise. It is something that has meaning to her and she want to maintain it.

We use reusable water bottles and refill them as needed. That does keep our footprint down. We have reusable lunch bags we use along with reusable ice packs. We reuse things a lot.

I recycle things into my puppetry. I use things in my costumes and dolls that I find. Some of the best prop parts I have found are recycled objects.

I think about my planet and what I can do to help it heal and continue with us on it.

We can and want to make the world better. This is our planet and we love it.

I am grateful for those who work towards helping Earth.
