SDCC Inked

Posted By on July 24, 2020

Four years ago, I got my first tattoo.

This all started back in 2004 at the CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) where Peter ended up getting a tattoo of the Elfquest character Leetah on his arm after Richard and Wendy Pini donated a 1000 to the CBLDF.

Since then we had, at first, joked about me getting a matching Cutter tattoo. In 2012, Wendy drew a Cutter on my arm, which was fun, but that one wasn’t to be permanent.

When we go to SDCC, we have dinner with Mark Evanier and company if we can. It is always a good time with lots of fun stories and discussion. This time it was Peter, Caroline, Maggie Thompson, Mark and me.

Across the way Wendy and Richard were having dinner with their friend.

I had talked to Wendy about actually pulling the trigger on the tattoo.

They came over and Wendy offered to draw Cutter.

I accepted and Maggie pulled out a brand new Sharpie. Wendy proceeded to draw Cutter after comparing the size to what Peter had on his arm.

This of course created a discreet crowd of on-lookers.

The next day I went to a local tattoo parlor and got it inked.

I love my tattoo and am very proud of it.

Caroline and the Pinis

(for the VI: This was taken at a signing at SDCC for Elfquest. From left to right Wendy Pini wearing a black shawl and a blue beaded top, Caroline wearing her Marauder’s Map dress and Gryffindor cloak, and Richard wearing a grey coat Elfquest t-shirt.)

Wendy drawing Cutter on my arm.

(for the VI: Wendy is drawing on my arm with a sharpie. I am looking down and wearing a black t-shirt with a Rope Octopus.)

The completed drawing next to Peter’s Tattoo of Leetah

(For the VI: Peter is on the left wearing a black polo shirt with the Crazy 8 logo. He has his sleeved rolled up to show off his Leetah tattoo. I am on the right showing off my Cuttter drawing)

Cutter Inked

(for the VI: This is the finished tattoo right after he finished it. My arm is wrapped in plastic to protect the tattoo)

The final tattoo while healing

(For the VI: this is the tattoo after a day or so of healing.)

I am grateful for my tattoo.
