Crafty Tuesday Musings

Peter has stated more than once that he doesn’t get writer’s block because he doesn’t have time for it. He pushes through and gets the job done. Currently he is working on about three projects at the same time. He moves from one to the other especially if he has hit a sticking point on one.

I learned from him that writer’s block can’t exist when you are under a deadline or just trying to get something done.

Creative block can be trickier but I take a page out of Peter’s book and work on another project until I figure out my issue with the original project or finally find that one thing that makes me want to go finish project number one.

Deadlines also make great motivators for me. Procrastination is my worse sin in the creative process. I tend to finish everything up just in time and that can be hard on me and my family.

I do spend a lot of time thinking about projects and how I am going to do them. I can work my way through potential problems so it goes quicker when I get to it. I have broken myself of the habit of leaving the biggest problem for last but that was a hard fight. If I find myself avoid something in a build, I reroute my thinking and effort to that problem and get that puppet done first.

I am facing that now. I have the ideas and the materials. Now I need to find the time which does exists. I just have to figure out where and how.

In doing so I have started to keep a log of how long I do what during the day trying to see patterns and habits both good and bad. When I seem to get the most done (the morning) and when I am practically useless (usually about 2 to 3 until about 5). I am figuring out my rhythm and what I can do with it.

What I do need to do is stop the grand plans in my head and get some out here in the real world.

So I am challenging myself that by next week, there will be photographic evidence of progress on at least one if not two projects.

I am putting this out there to keep myself honest.

I am grateful for time spent wisely.
