Crafty Tuesday Now All the Time until DragonCon
Posted By Kathleen David on August 16, 2011
OK, it is 16 days to DragonCon and right now I have the house to myself. How’s that? Did I just lock Caroline and Peter in the Bat Cave so I would have work time? Nope. They are in Las Vegas today and then onto Los Angles to watch the recording of Peter’s next episode of Young Justice. Caroline is very happy to be off on an adventure with Daddy. So I have my time to work and work hard. The only thing I am going to be doing outside the house is the gym.
So to keep myself honest, I am going to be posting photos of what I get done each day.
Small snag in the whole project is that my sewing machine is stuck in reverse which is making it very hard to sew. I am trying to figure out how to fix or I am up the creek without a paddle. It is a Singer 1036 creative touch if anyone has any ideas.
Today’s photos are over a period of time but they show the progression of the puppets and where I am now.
Photos are behind the cut because I am trying to save my readers a photo blast.
I am grateful that Peter and Caroline arrived safely in Vegas.
The Raw Materials for the puppets
(For the Visually impaired: this is my white work table on the back of the table is a roll of green half-inch foam. In front of the foam on the left is a red broadcloth that I uses for the mouths of the puppets and to the right is the pink fleece I use for the bodies)
This was a day’s work. I built all four bodies.
(For the Visually Impaired: The white worktable again. There are four muppet-like puppets. Their mouths are open so you can see the red I use for the inside of the mouth. They have heads, bodies, and arms. There are no faces at this time. There is a pair of orange handled sewing scissors in front of the puppets to give a size reference)
This was about a day and a half worth’s of work. They have their faces and hair. Castiel and Sarah Jane now have shirts.
(For the Visually Impaired: Same white work table. Same four puppets except they now have their eyes, noses, hair, and ears. From left to right 1) Castiel from the TV series Supernatural. He has black hair, blue eyes, ears and is wearing a white dress shirt. 2) Erik Lensherr from X-Men First Class. He has brown hair with light blue eye and his ears. No costume yet. 3) Charles Xavier from X-men First Class. He has wave brown hair with sideburns, blue eyes, and ears. No costume yet. 4) Sarah Jane Smith from Doctor Who. She has brown hair in a bob-cut. Her eyes are green. She has her ears and is wearing a gold colored shirt with gold color buttons)
What I did yesterday first photo
(For the Visually Impaired: The Castiel puppet with his white dress shirt and now sporting a blue tie slightly off center to match how the actor wears his tie in the series. Castiel is leaning on the Charles and Erik puppets)
What I did yesterday the second photo. Sarah Jane was finished up the day before but Castiel’s coat and tie were done while getting Peter and Caroline ready to go.
(For the Visually Impaired: On the white work table we have on the left Sarah Jane Smith sporting her gold colored shirt, light blue paisley vest with buttons that look like ancient coins, and a tweed coat with brown leather buttons. Castiel is wearing his white shirt, blue tie and charcoal colored jacket.)
So that is where I am as of this morning. More photos tomorrow of what I get done today.
