RTBTCKI (The 2009 I am such a lemming edition)
Posted By Kathleen David on December 29, 2009
I have a feeling that the next couple of days are going to be reflection back and a look forward to the next year according the Gregorian Calendar (which is based on the Julian Calendar with Augustan updates).
We had some big changes this past year. Ariel graduated from High School and started college at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. Caroline went from Kindergarten to first grade which was a big change for her. I performed for Field day at her school and got more involved as a parent with her school. So our household went from four to three and Caroline informed us, in no uncertain terms, that she liked a family of four better than three.
We traveled some interesting places this year. Not only did we visit our usual haunts in Baltimore, San Diego, Orlando, and Atlanta but we ventured out to Seattle, Auckland, and Melbourne. We met a lot of new people and enjoyed new experiences.
I stretched my creative mind outside the comfort zone this year. I did a set of Discworld Dolls for a challenge and my dolls were shown at an International Doll show along with other DiscWorld Dolls. I built a couple of new puppets and revised my Doctor Who puppets for 9,10, and 11 along with my first companions (Jack and Sarah Jane) and my first villain (Delgado Master). I also did a few things that I can talk about later next year.
Costuming went well for us. We did one costume this year and won for being funny which we do well. I have to give credit to the Shoreleave Ninjas for being such sports and helping us to the win. Caroline enjoyed being a pirate and wore her costume elsewhere with great pride. I also give credit to my fellow costumer Susan who did the most complicated costume for her daughter who made a wonderful Tia Dalma.
I did exercise more and was a little more careful about what I ate which helped my blood pressure except when I got extremely agitated, which did happen more time than I would like this past year. I plan to continue that next year.
A lot of my life is my family both blood and extended. I shared triumphs and tragedies. I attended too many wakes and funerals for my liking. I also celebrated births and adoptions. It has been a big year for ups and downs and beginnings and ends.
Of course Caroline has changed a lot in a year. At the beginning of the year she was starting to read. Now she sits down with one of her books and reads to herself. She is getting taller. Her artistic abilities continue to grow and she still loved to draw and do other arts and crafts. She does simple math and enjoys it. She is curious about the world and how it works. She still loves animal with a fiery passion. Her puppetry skills are getting pretty good.
Peter ventured into the Video Game industry and ended up working on Shadow Complex which has garnered a number of awards this year. He has received compliments for his script for the project. He also wrote in his usual fields and worked on a few projects that were very different like the novel he did with Claudio Sanchez of the band Coheed and Cambria which will be out next year.
I think this year didn’t suck as much as 2008 but it came darn close. Here’s to 2010 being a better year for us all.
I am grateful that I got through 2009.
Wishing you a Happy, healthy 2010.
