Foolscap 11 Day 2
Posted By Kathleen David on September 27, 2009
In which Caroline finds some convention friends and I see some of the convention and meet some new friends.
Foolscap is what I would call a relaxacon. No frantic schedules, no running between hotels or even floors at a hotel, just a relaxed pace and a lot of time to talk to people.
Caroline met some girls a little older than her but the three of them spent most of yesterday running around together having fun. She was so happy to have some other kids to play with. And since the areas she could be in were rather limited, we let her run around with the older kids without one of us hovering in the background. She loved the independence and behaved herself very well.
I got together with Janna and through her met a lot of her friends. It was nice having other adults to talk to about all those things that lit fans tend to talk about. It is nice going into the con suite and hearing a lively discussion about the works of Heinlein. Or about stories that were steam before steam was cool (of course Jules Verne was brought up first with Wells being second). That sort of discourse seems to be happening less and less at conventions these days. And what was also nice was that in the discussion were not only people my age and older but younger people too.
Peter has been doing his various panels and signings. He is enjoying himself. There are lunch and dinner breaks so we have time to go out as a family and get a meal together before we move onto the next thing.
So today we have a few more things to do. Then we pack up and are back to New York tomorrow.
I am grateful for this trip for many reasons.
