In Memorial for Robbie

Posted By on August 14, 2009

Marina, Ariel, and Robbie aka the Scooby Gang at Shoreleave I believe.

A year ago we lost Robbie. He fought the good fight but between the cancer and the lung infection that was taking his breath away, it was just too much. And he passed peacefully surrounded and supported by his family. My last words to Robbie were, “How many ducks do you have in there?” in reference to his car and all the rubber ducks in the back window. He grinned and said he had lost count. We had visited him on the way to my niece’s birthday party.

Grinning was as natural as breathing to Robbie. He always seemed to have a big grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye. And for a while he was that awkward all arms and legs stage that teenage boys seem to go through. He was a good sport and took teasing from Ariel and Marina then dished it out right back at them.

They nicknamed themselves the Scooby Gang and during a convention it seemed that Robbie, Ariel, and Marina were inseparable. Or if they were separated, they knew exactly where each other were. I knew that Caroline was safe running around with Robbie. Caroline called him “Robbie Rotten” after the character on Lazytown which Robbie found cute because Caroline was cute. Caroline loved following him around. Robbie was their convention brother and he took care of them.

I miss my short conversations with Robbie. I miss seeing him with Caroline who would look at him with such love in her eyes. I miss figuring out how we are going to use Robbie in the next sketch we were going to do or Peter using him in the opening sketch for Mystery Trekkie Theater. I miss going down to the lower level at the Hunt Valley Inn and hear the giggling and laughter as the Sunday night late poker game edged passed Midnight. I miss going into the gaming room and watching Robbie, very focused, playing DDR. I miss Robbie playing with my puppets. I miss Robbie.

Hug your loved ones. Tell them that you love them and treasure them. Life is too short and for some it is even shorter.

I am grateful to have had Robbie in my sketches and in our lives. We miss you buddy.
