Oasis 22 and Soggy Orlando

But not as soggy as Daytona which seems to be underwater and the time trials is soon.
Oasis is a small Science Fiction literary convention in the style of the old style Southern Science Fiction conventions. It is a very relaxing convention with panels leaning towards literature and hard science. It is nice to see such conventions still exist considering the Mega-Global-conventions that are now the norm. It reminds me of a KublaKhan or a small LibertyCon. The con committee are very nice people who have made our stay as pleasant as possible. If you are invited to be GoH here, I highly recommend them for a nice convention. If you live in the Orlando area and read science fiction and fantasy, this is a nice homey convention to come it and it is not that expensive to attend. Come on down and make some new friends.
The weekend had also been packed with Disney time. This was really my first major “Disney in the Rain” trip and it added to the level of excitement of getting from here to there.
So here on my thoughts on the weekend in no particular order that make sense to anyone but me.
First, I would like to thank my friends I got to see down in Orlando, some not as long as I would have liked. And for the new friends I made down there. Y’all make a trip down to the middle of Florida with the heat and the humidity all worth it.
Caroline loved her time down there and her play-dates with her new best buddy Emily. She drew a picture this morning of Emily and her on the Toy Story Midway ride which Peter scanned in and sent to Emily’s daddy.
This trip to Disney had a couple of firsts for me.
I had never ridden the teacups at the Mad Hatter’s tea party but I did so twice with Caroline. It was the first time I rode the revamped Haunted Mansion and was mightily impressed with the adds and changes to the ride. What replaced the spider is truly amazing and, as a Labyrinth fan, I totally approve. It is the first time Caroline and I rode Pirates of the Caribbean together where she wanted to go and see all the animals in the ride. I didn’t know how many there were until this past time.
It was the first time I saw the new Playhouse Disney show. The puppets were amazing and Caroline had a great time singing along and dancing to the show. It was my first time on the new Toy story ride at Disney Hollywood (I keep calling it Disney MGM) and it was so much fun. My score got me a bunny. I really enjoy that ride.
Then there were the old favorites that we revisited.
I did go see Muppets 3-D. It was the last time Jim was the voice of Kermit. It was nice to hear all the original voices again. Peter Pan was as magical as always. Caroline remembers that ride very clearly. She rode it once with me and 3 times with Peter. She loves that ride so much. The carousel was visited numerous times. Caroline loved it the first time she went to Disney and she loves it to this day.
Ariel got to do her favorite things including a visit to Epcot and the Japan pavilion. We didn’t do much else at Epcot due to the deluge of rain that descended upon us.
We didn’t make it to Animal Kingdom but that’s fine. We hit at least one thing that each person wanted to do.
I am grateful for all the memories that were created this weekend.
