The Fog comes in on Little Cat Feet

I can remember the first time I read “Fog” by Carl Sandburg. It was in my English text in the fourth grade. We talked about the poem and how it made us feel and what we saw in our mind’s eye and how the author’s clever use of language provoked these things. I thought it was so clever and I still do. My four favorite poets (besides my sister) are T.S. Elliot, Carl Sandburg, e.e. cummings, and Seamus Heaney.
This morning I looked out my front window and had a hard time seeing outside. My mind went immediately to “Fog” which I then said to Caroline who thought it was a pretty poem. She had me repeat it for the cats.
I am waiting for the fog to lift and see what the day will really be like. I am figuring that we will have rain this afternoon so it will be a good day for indoor activities. I may take Caroline to the library since I have to return some books and she always enjoys getting some books out on her card.
I am trying to figure some stuff out that has been going on in my brain pan entirely too long. I am sad to say that I haven’t been reading much or writing except the web log and the Facebook blurbs. I am annoyed that I have seemed to have lost the ability to read a book. Computer I can lose hours on reading various articles and things but to sit down with the discipline of reading something longer than a magazine article seems to elude me. And I am saddened by this turn of events. I have been reading Potato Moon which has been great fun but again that is on the computer. I have to find a way to get back to my book a day habit that allowed me to keep up with all the authors that I love to read and re-read.
I am grateful for books I have read and will read.
