A Pleasant Sunday Afternoon

Ariel has a bowling league that she belongs to that has a family day at a zoo and gardens. Peter had a signing at Books of Wonder today so I took the girls to the picnic and other activities. Caroline had a blast feeding the various animals. They have a magnificent bald eagle in the zoo which Caroline was a bit scared off.
One of activities was feeding a brown bear grapes. Now this was not a little baby bear but a grown up adult brown bear. The conditions under which the kids were feeding the bear were very controlled. The bear licked the grapes out of Caroline’s hand and made snuffling sounds. The keeper said that the sounds were good sounds for the bear to make since that meant that he was happy and content at that point. Caroline wasn’t sure at first but once she saw the other kids doing it, she decided to try it and wanted to do it again after meeting the bear face to face.
They also had a slip and slide set up for the younger kids. Caroline slipped and slid for as long as I would let her. Ariel played a bizarre game of softball that made sense to the kids but not the adults watching. We are now back at home and enjoying our air cool for a bit. I am going to pick up Peter at the train station and then we are taking the girls out for dinner.
I am grateful that Caroline got a chance to feed a bear.
