Wizard World Philly 2008 Day 2
Posted By Kathleen David on June 1, 2008
Some nice surprises on Saturday. I got to spend some time talking to a couple of people I like talking too. The security guard at one of the gates took pity on me letting me through the gate rather than making me walk outside in the pouring rain. And Caroline took a nap allowing me to get some of the running around I need to do done without having to push a stroller as well.
I got to have my usual short conversation with Joe Quesada, which, by this point, we both think is funny. Joe got us tickets for the 8 pm Mets/Dodgers game that is going to be the Sunday night baseball game on ESPN. We are going from the convention to the ballpark. Wish us luck with traffic and parking.
Peter had a panel with Chris Clairmont, Greg Hildebrandt, and Tom Breevort. It was called Grand Masters of Comics. Peter and Chris play very well off of each other so there was much comedy and some good answers too. Afterwards I got to talk to Chris and catch up on various things.
The rest of the day was talking to various people and taking care of Caroline. About 2 Caroline informed me that it was too loud in the room and she wanted to go back to the hotel. I did so and we had a quiet afternoon. Ariel swapped out with me and I went back and saw what I had left to see and have nice conversations with some people I know (you know who you were *grin*).
The surprise for our weekend is that Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights and Speed Racer) was there. Scott is someone that we met at DragonCon right before Friday Night Lights started. We found out later that we had a number of friends in common since he use to work at Disney World and Universal in Florida. Since then we run into each other at various conventions. He is a really nice guy and great with fans. He didn’t have dinner plans so we invited him to join us. Caroline was excited that she was going to have dinner with Rex Racer.
After dinner the David family went back to the hotel and swam for about an hour. We cleaned up from the pool and drifted off to sleep.
This morning I have been packing and double-checking that we are not leaving anything behind. Almost done with that. We go back to the convention this morning and leave about 3 pm to drive to Shea and probably the last ball game I am going to see there.
I am grateful for where I am today.
I absolutely LOVED Speed Racer, and I’m now a little envious of Caroline.
I take it from your wording that Shea is going to be replaced. As I pay little attention, I didn’t know that. Perhaps a column on Shea memories? I cherish the few times I went to Tigers Stadium in Detroit, including Denny McLain’s 30th win!
