Entertaining Things

First a shout out to anyone out in Los Angeles. Y’all have a really great puppet show out there by Rogue Artists Ensemble who are performing Neil Gaiman’s and Dave McKeans “The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch” through May 27th.

More information can be found at Rouge artists

For those not in LA, I suggest you go to the website anyway because the production photos are wonderful and give you an idea of the scope of the production. They are really cool and I wish the group a lot of luck.

Sort of a strange circle of puppetry for me since I helped Neil and Dave get a whole bunch of reference photos of Mr. Punches from all over the world. Even got thanked at the beginning of the graphic novel.

Today I see Spiderman 3 with Ariel since Peter went to see a press screening last Thursday. I sort of avoided it during the weekend because I am so tired of all the cell phones being used during the show. I figure this gives me a better shot at being able to actually see the movie.

Yesterday Peter and I went to see “Hot Fuzz” which was a little gory for me but really really funny. It is done by the same gang that did “Shaun of the Dead” with the same kind of loony style. This one is a send up of action films and cop movies which just keeps getting more and more absurd until you get to the end. The accidents are rather graphic and the accents are rather thick so if you have a problem with either, then this may not be your cup of tea. Strong performances all around and I didn’t recognize Edward Woodward at all. Timothy Dalton gets to play with both his comic and sleazy timing. Jim Broadbent puts in a top notch performance as Inspector Butterman. Simon Peg and Nick Frost again play very well together.

Then last night I saw on TV “Heroes” and “The Riches” both of which keep improving. I can’t figure out how many more episodes “Heroes” has to go all I know is that we are getting a kicking action sequence next week with George. I wasn’t sure where “The Riches” was going to do when I first heard about it. I turned it on because Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver were the leads and they are both great actors. Since then I have been sucked into every episode by a great ensemble cast.

So a good days entertainment and I didn’t suck while bowling last night either.

I am grateful for entertainment.
