RIP Jerry Doyle

Posted By on July 29, 2016

I had a friend say on Facebook the other day, “Can we unplug 2016 wait ten seconds and plug it in again?” Might be worth trying because the number of these I have written this year amazes me.

I met Jerry the way I met the entire cast of Babylon 5 through Peter.

Jerry was one of those large than life people you meet. He could be loud and opinionated…OK he was always loud and opinionated but that was Jerry.

He had a distinctive laugh that could be heard quite clearly. I remember one convention I was taking to Pat Tallman and catching up with things. We heard the laugh and Pat said, ‘Jerry’s here’.

He had a sense of humor and knew how to tell a joke.

He once broke his arm while filming Babylon 5 and insisted on staying until the take was done before going to get his arm set.

J. Michael Straczynski said of Jerry, “Regardless of whatever was going on in his life, whether it was marital issues, a broken arm, forced couch-surfing with Bruce and Andreas or other problems, he never once pulled a prima donna on us; he showed up every day on time, knew his lines, and insisted that the guest cast live up to the standards of the main cast.”- copyright JMS all rights reserved

Jerry, you and your laugh will be missed by me and many others.

I am grateful that I met Jerry.

I met Jerry at a Florida con around 1998. He loved cooking and watching TV cooking shows…as does my husband. The only autographed pix I ever brought Glen from a con was the one signed by Jerry to a “fellow Fat Ladies fan.”

My favorite B5 characters were Garibaldi and G’Kar, because I felt those two characters changed the most over the course of the show (Delenn’s physical transformation notwithstanding.). Jerry did a good job of portraying that growth, as did Andreas

He was funny and intelligent…and opinionated.. and he will indeed be missed.
